chewy posted a topic in Archives14th Match, Super 10 Group 2: Bangladesh v Pakistan at Kolkata Mar 16, 2016 (15:00 local | 09:30 GMT) It’s has been just over one week since the dark wet night in Dhaka. In front of thousands the excitable Tiger fell meekly to the Indian hunter to the astonished and wailing Dhaka crowd. But a week is an eternity in the age of tontee-tontee. the tigers have recuperated and recovered stronger than ever. The tiger seeks revenge by once again trying to severe the hunter’s head and go on to become the king of jungle in the hunter’s own abode. Tigers enter super 10s with a cloud of suspicion over the legality of it’s right claw manned by Taskin Ahmed (though tigers already pointing to hunter’s dirty tricks department) but the jaws are in rude health with Tamim Iqbal the slayer of Markhors in formidable form. The tiger has already devoured leprechauns, bunch of springboks/kangaroos in guantanamo jumpsuits and more escaped markhors disguised as camels. Now the tigers face their first real test in their quest to world domination, they face their ex-brothers from the west, the Markhors, who they mauled with ease in the recent Asia Cup encounter. After much dilly-dallying and comedy nights the Markhors finally crossed the mountains and into the hunter’s homeland. To avoid little saffron terrors they migrated further east, to the safe havens of Mamata's secular hinterlands. After a decade of bullying his little tiger brother, the Markhor has had to cope with several counter-punches from it’s little brother. The tiger is no more a puny little brother. The markhor will be wary this time of the cat who can stand up on two feet and throw a punch! As ever the markhors come into another world tournament with imaginary “the odds are staked against us” which have made them into the perennial cornered markhors. But this time legendary markhor has claimed: “India mein humne humesha cricket enjoy kia, yahan ke logon se humein bahut pyar mila, itna pyar humein Pak mein bhi ni mila jitna yahan," This is an excellent strategic move to get the crowd cheering them against the vociferous tiger fans. Make no mistake, the markhors sharp horns lead by a battery of left arm quicks could easily overwhelm the tigers. Lead by none other than pretender to the title of King of Swing, Mohammed Amir, who has promised to make Rohit Sharma say “Jasprit Bumrah who??” once he rips out the tiger’s heart with his 150kph tunderbolts. Also the return of selfie-queen will bring stability to the top order. ICC T20i Rankings: Markhors (no.7), Tigers (no.10) Head to Head Wins: Overall (Markhors 7 - 2 TIgers), World T20 (Markhors 4 - 0 Tigers) looks like Tigers are looking for mauka mauka Key Battle: Amir v Tamim Amir: Bowling Career averages MatInnsOversMdnsRunsWktsBBIAveEconSR45 unfiltered252592.04638313/1820.586.9317.800Profilefiltered (last 12 months)7727.0118183/1822.626.7020.200Tamim: Career averages MatInnsNORunsHSAveBFSR1005004s6s unfiltered494951092103*24.81947115.3114312025Profilefiltered (last 12 months)13132390103*35.45286136.361103518 Weather: Good , 34°C, (0% chance of rain) Pitch: likely to be on slow side, par score 150. Spin to be key. Set batsmen have to capitalise, won't be easy to hit from ball 1. Surprise factor: Imad Wasim (Markhors), left arm spin, got 4-25 in warm-up vs Lions. So ladies and gentlemen sit back and enjoy the Round II: Tigers v Markhors. Chewy's prediction: TIgers to win either by 6 wkts or 15 runs. Betfair odds: Markhors (4/7), Tigers (8/5)
Still a week to go but hardly any excitement to the World T20, despite being hosted in cricket's biggest market. I think ICC made mistake to host it in India. World T20 should have been hosted anywhere other than India, especially with IPL looming large in the horizon (9 April 2016). ICC should do what was planned originally for Champions Trophy, playing in new regions to promote cricket, e.g. Kenya 2000. ICC should have played it in Zimbabwe or maybe Ireland. I think excitement and passion is more for IPL than World T20 in India.
