flat_wicket_bully posted a topic in Archivesvs scheduled at 8:00 PM IST on 29th April Preview Is it a little too late? This is a question the Gujarat Lions players will ask themselves as they head into the second half of their campaign. By no means Lions are out of the race to make it to the play-offs but they will need at least four more wins in their last six matches to stand a chance. In the three wins that they have registered in eight games so far in IPL 2017, they've shown that things are slowly falling in place for them. The bowling - which was their weak link - has stepped up and now inspires confidence that they can win matches for the team. Their clinical show against Royal Challengers Bangalore in Bengaluru showcased that they have the ability to dismantle even the strongest batting line-up in the tournament. Andrew Tye has emerged as the linchpin of the Lions bowling while Ravindra Jadeja, Basil Thampi and James Faulkner have done well to provide him with ample support. However, when they take on Mumbai Indians, the bowling will be put under pressure yet again. Mumbai have, on several occasions, found different batsmen to carry them through tough situations despite Rohit Sharma's indifferent form. Considering they will be welcomed by a track full of runs, Mumbai will look at this as an opportunity to cement their place at the top of the table with another win. Six wins from eight games have given the much-needed cushion but the think-tank will be keen to carry forward the momentum. As is the case in a tournament like IPL, it's not about racking up wins in the first half of the tournament but sustaining the momentum and making it count at the business end of it. On more than one occasion, it has been the batsmen who have helped the team get over the line but in the clash against Delhi Daredevils, where they defended 142, the bowlers showed they aren't just playing support cast. While Harbhajan Singh, Krunal Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah have been exceptional, Mitchell Johnson has ensured they don't miss Lasith Malinga, who has been out of the playing XI due to poor form. They will, however, look forward to a much-improved show from Mitchell McClenaghan, who has picked up wickets but more often than not, has leaked runs. Lions have some tough games ahead of them. After the game against Mumbai, they play Daredevils twice, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Rising Pune Supergiant and Kings XI Punjab but after their win against Royal Challengers, they will believe they can rack up crucial wins and give themselves a chance. Mumbai, on the other hand, will know two more wins and they will have one foot in the play-offs and that should prop up the side. History: The two teams have met thrice in the tournament so far. While Lions won both their clashes in the last edition, Mumbai thrashed Lions by six wickets at home in the tenth edition. What: Gujarat Lions vs Mumbai Indians, April 29, 20:00 IST Where: Saurashtra Cricket Association Ground, Rajkot What to expect: A hot evening expected in Rajkot. The track, as has been the case in all the previous four games here, will be full of runs and the teams will prefer to chase. Team news: Gujarat Lions: The Suresh Raina-led side have finally found the right combination, one where they don't appear batting heavy. After their win against Royal Challengers, it's unlikely they will make any changes to their line-up. Probable XI: Ishan Kishan, Brendon McCullum, Suresh Raina (c), Aaron Finch, Dinesh Karthik (wk), Ravindra Jadeja, James Faulkner, Andrew Tye, Basil Thampi, Nathu Singh, Ankit Soni. Mumbai Indians: After their loss against Rising Pune Supergiant, Mumbai have had four days off, giving them ample time to rejuvenate. Despite the loss, it's highly unlikely there will be too many changes to the combination that has propelled them to the top of the table. Krunal Pandya should come in in place of Karn Sharma. Probable XI: Parthiv Patel (wk), Jos Buttler, Nitish Rana, Rohit Sharma (c), Kieron Pollard, Krunal Pandya, Hardik Pandya, Harbhajan Singh, Mitchell McClenaghan, Mitchell Johnson, Jasprit Bumrah. What they said: "It was a very good performance from the team tonight (against RCB). We've put ourselves in this position by being poor in a couple of games. We're still very confident, though. We have a good side, but time will tell." - Aaron Finch. Did you know? - Rohit Sharma needs 14 more runs to become the third player to score 4000 runs in IPL after Virat Kohli and Suresh Raina - Among those who have bowled at least 15 overs in IPL 2017, Krunal Pandya has the best balls-per-boundary percentage among bowlers - 11.50 - Harbhajan Singh is the only bowler this IPL to concede at less than six runs per over - 5.88 (min 15 overs) Teams: Mumbai Indians (From): Parthiv Patel(w), Jos Buttler, Nitish Rana, Rohit Sharma(c), Karn Sharma, Kieron Pollard, Hardik Pandya, Harbhajan Singh, Mitchell McClenaghan, Mitchell Johnson, Jasprit Bumrah, Lasith Malinga, Shreyas Gopal, Lendl Simmons, Vinay Kumar, Siddhesh Lad, Jagadeesha Suchith, Tim Southee, Jitesh Sharma, Krunal Pandya, Deepak Punia, Saurabh Tiwary, Nicholas Pooran, Krishnappa Gowtham, Kulwant Khejroliya, Ambati Rayudu, Asela Gunaratne Gujarat Lions (From): Ishan Kishan, Brendon McCullum, Suresh Raina(c), Aaron Finch, Ravindra Jadeja, Dinesh Karthik(w), James Faulkner, Andrew Tye, Nathu Singh, Basil Thampi, Ankit Soni, Dwayne Smith, Dhawal Kulkarni, Praveen Kumar, Pradeep Sangwan, Shadab Bashir Jakati, Jaydev Shah, Manpreet Gony, Jason Roy, Munaf Patel, Chirag Suri, Akshdeep Nath, Shubham Agarwal, Tejas Baroka, Pratham Singh, Shelley Shaurya, Irfan Pathan Source : Cricbuzz
