  5. How successful would these leg side playing southpawz would be... with wrist spinners ruling the roost, you wonder if a timely googly especially when batsman is trying for his release shot ( leg side hoics in this case ) would most probably cause the downfall. Especially the likes of pant and kishen
  6. No doubt that Warner is a big loss for SRH. They will never be the same without him. Golden Chance for Dhawan and Pandey to up their game and take seal their spots in the national team(At least for Pandey). Who do you think will the most important batsmen for SRH?
  7. From Cricbuzz: Both Warner and Smith have been barred from playing in the IPL this year © IPL Indian Premier League commissioner Rajiv Shukla has poured more misery on the already beleaguered Australia pair of Steven Smith and David Warner, the country's captain and vice-captain until the recent ball-tampering saga unfolded, by confirming that they will not be allowed to play in the IPL this year. Both players, captains of their respective franchises Rajasthan Royals and Sunrisers Hyderabad, had already stepped down from their positions as leaders of the side, but now find themselves out of the team too. The players were on contracts of 12.5 crore INR. "The franchises will get replacements for the players as they (David Warner and Steve Smith) will not be allowed to play this year," Rajiv Shukla, IPL Commissioner, was quoted as saying by news agency ANI. The fall-out from Smith's astounding ball tampering confessions midway through Australia's third Test against South Africa continues to snowball rapidly. The barring from the IPL comes on the back of reports that both Smith and Warner have been handed one-year bans from Cricket Australia. SRH screwed
  8. With limited-overs cricket becoming an increasingly unfamiliar environment for fingerspinners, R Ashwin has amped up his efforts to remain relevant. Over the past few years, he has been working towards becoming a wristspinner and was confident enough to try those variations in a domestic one-day match against Gujarat on Monday. He finished with figures of 2 for 38 in 9.1 overs as Tamil Nadu won the match by 76 runs. Ashwin was one of the two top-ranked bowlers in Test cricket when he was given a break from India's ODI squad. Legspinner Yuzvendra Chahal and left-arm wristspinner Kuldeep Yadav were brought in to fill the void but now have become an intrinsic part of why India are so hard to beat in 50-overs cricket. To keep pace with the competition, Ashwin has been practicing legspin himself. "This is part of my plan going into the IPL. I am just trying to build my armoury. I used to bowl good legbreaks with my offspin action when I was playing league cricket in Chennai. Over a period of time, in a search to get my stock ball right, I obviously had to cut out a lot of those things. I had possessed a lot more variations. Having bowled offbreak as the stock ball for almost 10 years, trying to change things around is challenging. But I don't really settle for anything. At no point in my career, I thought 'this is it' and decided to settle for the rest of my career." Ashwin said he has largely been working alone. "As of now everything is cooked by me. I try to take feedback from our coaches in my academy. L Balaji has been of great help. First time I was bowling legspin, we were working on some actions on how to gain momentum. How I can make a repeatable action work for me. For example, my arm doesn't go 45 degrees which is perfect for a leg spinner. I am more upright. I have to adjust my action. It has been a painful ride. One day it will come out well in the nets, and the next day it won't come out all right. It will be frustrating. I have gone through the entire journey and have reached a place where I can land the ball where I want to." The IPL presents the next opportunity for Ashwin to make a case for himself in limited-overs cricket. Although this season, when he goes home to play in Chennai, he would line up as part of the opposition: Kings XI Punjab bought him for INR 7.6 crore (USD 1.18 million approx) "I was a tad disappointed because I have been here for the last ten years," Ashwin said. "Literally, I have owned that space around Chepauk. Every time I came on to bowl, the kind of roaring and cheering I got will always stick on to my head. Coming back there, to play against CSK, will probably motivate me more."
  9. On second day of IPL auction, Aryaman Vikram Birla, son of Aditya Birla Group chairman Kumar Mangalam Birla, was sold to Rajasthan Royals for Rs 3 million. The left-hand batsman and slow left-arm orthodox bowler has played only one first-class match while representing Madhya Pradesh against Odisha in Indore in November 2017.

  14. Pune 3-0 Mumbai, 1-0 in Hyderabad

Just a bit of stats leading upto the final. In addition to beating Mumbai all three times this season, Pune were also the only team to beat SRH in Hyderabad, which is where the final is being held. Of course, all that could mean nothing if they don't win today.

  16. While Pune's bowlers have quietly gone about doing their job, restricting teams to low totals and taking heaps of wickets, they've gone under the radar of most people even though they've been the best bowling side in the tournament (a fact supported by stats). Why? Because it's a bowling line-up made up of a bunch of trundlers. Before last night too, many predicted Pune's trundlers to get smashed all over the park. That wasn't to be. It's their third match against Pune and Mumbai still found no answer to Lord Unadkat and Dan Christian. So whoever's facing us in the final, underestimate our trundlers at your own peril.
  17. Steve Smith has been really inspirational in guiding the Pune team. As a Krishna he has guided an out of sorts Dhoni. & back him to perform well. He has extracted performance from Unadkat (Nakul) ,Sundar ( Sahdev). Kohli should learn from Smith how to extract performance from Rahane, Dhoni, Yuvraj

  23. Rising Pune Supergiant to return next year?

Rising Pune Supergiant owner Sanjiv Goenka has not rejected the chances of him buying a team next year completely. When asked about whether he will participate in next year’s bidding process or not, he said “Maybe”. Goenka further said that corporate should get in sports in an even larger way. He was of the opinion that “Time has come for corporates to get involved in a larger way in sport. It’s quite apart from the mileage, it’s a responsibility to help younger people, build academies, this is very important.” Goenka is also the owner of ISL franchise Atletico de Kolkata, and his team in IPL is in a really good position this year. Regarding sharing experiences with the legends of the game like MS Dhoni, he said “Honestly, it’s about dealing with great minds, personalities, understanding leadership strategies. Interacting with Dhoni, Smith, Faf, it’s been an eye-opener”. With Pune’s superb performance in this year’s IPL, we might get to see Sanjiv Goenka as the owner of a franchise next year too.
