  6. Bollywood vs Basi Biryanis at Mumbai A game to see whether MI can make a comeback in this edition. Or will it innovate to lose another potentially close game? SRH is likely to be w/o Bhuvi. Not sure about availability of Dhawan If MI wasn’t playing the way it is, it would have been a cake walk for it. SRH would have had to contend with their basi biryanis. But it is different this time Expecting a few changes to the 11 such as Cuttings in for Pollard. Can bring in the SLankan AR in place of McG. Or replace McG with Sangwan and bring JP in to provision against some early wkts Good luck to both the teams seeking to revive their campaign!

  13. Powered by Cricinfo Big Picture: Almost everyone remembers that Bangladesh-India match. World T20, 2016, Bangladesh need two runs from three balls to knock out the hosts. Instead, a senior batsman allows his emotions to get the better of him, and India pounce to claim a heart-stopping one-run victory. Two years later, Bangladesh players are still asked questions about this match. Have the wounds from that game healed? Will the World T20 clash play on their minds if they find themselves in a similar situation? Perhaps they have the skill, but do they possess the nerve to overcome this opponent? It does not help that even without some of their most formidable T20 players, India appear the more confident side. Though defeated by the hosts on Tuesday, they have a powerful top order, and a promising attack - even if it is a little short on experience. Bangladesh have the raw materials in place, but following a poor home series against Sri Lanka, they have come into this series a little bruised. Without Shakib Al Hasan in the top order, they are not producing runs as consistently as they have done over the past two years, and their bowling appears a little light - particularly as Mustafizur Rahman's efficiency has recently waned. They do, however, have one thing this Indian side does not have - a win on Sri Lankan soil, on this trip. A comprehensive victory in their practice match in Colombo on Tuesday will have helped repair some of the damage sustained in their most-recent series. Whether that is sufficient to put them on even terms with India, remains to be seen. Pitch and conditions: A standard Khettarama pitch is expected - half decent for batting, but a little on the slow side. It is possible - but not likely - that an evening thunderstorm will blow through. Team news: Bangladesh could opt for Nurul Hasan ahead of Sabbir Rahman, while Mehidy Hasan could be picked ahead of a seamer, for his batting. Ariful Haque and Soumya Sarkar are seam-bowling options, if they opt for only two frontline pace bowlers. Bangladesh (possible): 1 Tamim Iqbal, 2 Soumya Sarkar, 3 Liton Das, 4 Mushfiqur Rahim (wk), 5 Mahmudullah (capt.), 6 Ariful Haque, 7 Nurul Hasan, 8 Mehidy Hasan Miraz, 9 Nazmul Hossain 10 Taskin Ahmed, 11 Mustafizur Rahman India may think about fielding seamer Mohammed Siraj in place of Shardul Thakur, who was expensive on Monday. Otherwise, they may remain unchanged - though it is also possible that KL Rahul could enter the top order. India (possible): 1 Shikhar Dhawan, 2 Rohit Sharma (capt.), 3 Suresh Raina, 4 Manish Pandey, 5 Rishabh Pant, 6 Dinesh Karthik (wk), 7 Vijay Shankar, 8 Washington Sundar, 9 Yuzvendra Chahal, 10 Jaydev Unadkat, 11 Mohammed Siraj Stats: Bangladesh have lost all five T20s they have played against India. India have not lost two T20s in a row since 2016. They have played 19 completed T20s since then. Shikhar Dhawan's 90 on Tuesday is the second-highest T20 score at Khettarama, after Luke Wright's 99 not out against Afghanistan in 2012.
  14. Preview by Shirshendu Roy (Cricbuzz) Let's get the obvious out of the way - India start as favourites to win the Nidahas Trophy, even though they field a second string side - one without their star batsman and regular skipper Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni, Hardik Pandya, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jasprit Bumrah and Kuldeep Yadav. On the face of it, the powerhouses of the unit are missing but with the likes of Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan at the top of the order, the No.3 ranked T20I machinery are unlikely to quiver. While the visitors made the voluntary choice of resting the top guns, Sri Lanka's is a forced one, with their star all-rounder and captain Angelo Mathews grappling with an injury again. The fragility of Mathews's body has been synonymous with the recent downfall of the team too, and as the veteran patiently - desperately at times, looks to put his body together, Sri Lanka's wait to be on the right track continues. On the form front, India find themselves in the pink of health, pushed very little by South Africa last month with the visitors winning the ODI leg 5-1 and the T20I series 2-1. Sri Lanka, too, have for now gathered themselves better and the wins in Bangladesh - across the tri-nation ODI series, and bilateral Tests and T20I series in Bangladesh - will give them solace, and why not? Having endured their worst year in cricket, copping 40 losses across all forms in a single calendar year - the most for any team, Sri Lanka learnt it the hard way that winning indeed is a good habit - something they have just realised. Just as any complacency could risk kicking in given the familiar environs of home - highly doubtful, they would not have forgotten their recent travails against India, with a tourwash at home and series losses across forms when they had toured India after that. While the hosts can rejoice the absence of the Kohlis, Bumrahs, Pandyas, etc, they will do well to remind themselves that it was not just Kohli who had caused them ample damage in the T20I series in December. KL Rahul returns to the fold against Sri Lanka again having scored 61 and 89 against them in December last year. The series will serve as an immense opportunity for the newbies - Washington Sundar, Deepak Hooda, Mohammed Siraj, Vijay Shankar and Rishabh Pant, and their intensity at the nets facility of the R. Premadasa Stadium on Monday (March 5), established their keenness further. While India hit the nets at full tilt despite the unrelenting humidity of Colombo, the hosts didn't push themselves much. However, there would be no dearth of competition from them with the returning Kusal Perera adding meat to their composition even though they chose to drop Niroshan Dickwella following his indifferent form. Whether or not Kusal Mendis will continue to open still remains under wraps. His recent twin fifties in Bangladesh though make him one of the forces to reckon with. What to expect: The humidity levels are only going to get worse as it shoots up to 79 percent on match day with the skies being partly cloudy. Although, all games are scheduled to be played under lights, the stickiness in the weather will challenge the players in the middle. Team News: India The Indian contingent didn't leave any stone unturned in the practice sessions on the match day. While Rohit, Dhawan and Rahul took the first hit in the three nets facility in the stadium complex, Suresh Raina was the next to knock a few. With doubts lingering over the bowling makeup, Vijay Shankar bowling at full threshold for close to an hour makes for a case to study. Jaydev Unadkat and Axar Patel were the usual suspects, with the latter certain to start having spent his time on the sidelines with wristspinners having taken precedence earlier. Washington Sundar too had a long toil, hinting at India's intentions of keeping themselves spin-heavy. Probable XI: Rohit Sharma (c), Shikhar Dhawan, KL Rahul, Suresh Raina, Manish Pandey, Dinesh Karthik, Vijay Shankar/Washington Sundar, Axar Patel, Shardul Thakur, Yuzvendra Chahal, Jaydev Unadkat Sri Lanka With Dickwella ignored for the series, Kusal Perera is set to take over the wicketkeeping duties on Tuesday. Apart from that, the hosts might not look to tinker much with their composition, especially after the head coach Chandika Hathurusingha touched upon on the importance of 'starting well'. Probable XI: Upul Tharanga, Kusal Mendis, Kusal Perera, Dinesh Chandimal (c), Dhananjaya de Silva, Thisara Perera, Dasun Shanaka, Jeevan Mendis, Akila Dananjaya, Suranga Lakmal, Nuwan Pradeep What they said: "If you go by the ratings, India is the No. 1 [No.3] team, so they always start ahead of the other teams. Whoever comes from India is a very strong team. We have to start well because we haven't been doing well at home. With Bangladesh - because of the last series - we probably have a little edge over them mentally. But still, India is the No. 1 [No.3] team." - Chandika Hathurusingha, Sri Lanka head coach "As a captain or coach, you got to give them (wristspinners) confidence, it is important they understand their strength and weaknesses, it is important to exploit the strength lot more." - Rohit Sharma, India captain.

  17. After two contrasting matches, the India vs Sri Lanka three-match One-Day International (ODI) series goes into the decider. India were handed an absolute drubbing in the season opener, but the home side bounced back in style to draw level in the series. Now, both the teams will fighting to take the series as they meet at the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam. Squad: India: Rohit Sharma (c), Dinesh Karthik, Mahendra Singh Dhoni (wk), Shikhar Dhawan, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Manish Pandey, Yuzvendra Chahal, Jasprit Bumrah, Shreyas Iyer, Hardik Pandya, Washington Sundar, Ajinkya Rahane, Siddarth Kaul, Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel. Sri Lanka: Thisara Perera (c), Upul Tharanga, Angelo Mathews, Suranga Lakmal, Lahiru Thirimanne, Nuwan Pradeep, Niroshan Dickwella (wk), Danushka Gunathilaka, Sachith Pathirana, Akila Dananjaya, Asela Gunaratne, Dhananjaya de Silva, Kusal Perera, Dushmantha Chameera, Chaturanga de Silva, Sadeera Samarawickrama. The live broadcast of the match will be shown on Star Sports network while the live streaming of the match can be caught on Hotstar.com. The match is scheduled to start at 1.30 PM IST.
  18. Big picture Sri Lanka can breathe easy. And not just because they are out of Delhi. Virat Kohli will not be breaking any more records on the rest of their tour. That's where the good news ends, though. The last time Sri Lanka played ODIs in India, India's new captain Rohit Sharma scored 264. Also the most successful IPL captain, Rohit, now gets to lead India in limited-overs cricket as Kohli rests, but the onus is on Sri Lanka to make this series less tedious than the speculation around Kohli's wedding. An indication of how unsure Sri Lanka are in ODI cricket is that until recently, their new captain - the third this year - Thisara Perera struggled to find a place in the side. Visiting India for ODIs is a daunting task at the best of times, and when you are on a 12-match losing streak and when India are on a seven-series winning streak, even miracles might not be enough. A more realistic target for Sri Lanka is to deny India a whitewash, which is what they need to become the No. 1 side in ODIs again. Normally, winning the toss and chasing in dewy grounds would be Sri Lanka's best chance to deny India, but the two matches in India's north, likely to be severely affected by dew, will begin two hours earlier than usual. That said, India will not want to take Sri Lanka lightly, especially with the return of Angelo Mathews, Danushka Gunathilaka and Asela Gunaratne. Form guide (last five completed matches, most recent first) India: WWLWL Sri Lanka: LLLLL In the spotlight An opportunity to bat in the India top order - with Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit and Kohli - doesn't come easy. The next three ODIs are an invitation for someone to stake a strong claim. Might it be another chance for Ajinkya Rahane, who has scored runs as an opener but hasn't done enough to dispel the notion that he struggles to push on once the ball gets softer? Might this be an opportunity for Shreyas Iyer to get a decent run in India's limited-overs sides? Or will Dinesh Karthik present a case to become India's long-term No. 4? Niroshan Dickwella can often get away with intemperate batting in Tests, but in ODIs he has to play a more important, more responsible role. He is Sri Lanka's second-highest run-getter this year, and one of only three players from Sri Lanka to have played more than 20 matches this year. How well he goes at the top of the order will often determine how well Sri Lanka go. Team news Rahane is the frontrunner to take Kohli's place in the XI with the other ODI specialists slotting right back in. India (probable): 1 Rohit Sharma (capt.), 2 Shikhar Dhawan, 3 Ajinkya Rahane, 4 Dinesh Karthik, 5 Kedar Jadhav, 6 MS Dhoni (wk), 7 Hardik Pandya, 8 Bhuvneshwar Kumar, 9 Kuldeep Yadav/Axar Patel, 10 Jasprit Bumrah, 11 Yuzvendra Chahal Sri Lanka's Delhi Test saviour Dhananjaya de Silva, who scored the highest fourth-innings score by a visiting batsman in India despite illness and injury, will not be fit for the first ODI. Gunaratne, who injured his hand during the first Test on India's tour of Sri Lanka, should regain his middle-order spot now that he is fit. Sri Lanka's second-highest wicket-taker this year, Suranga Lakmal, is available too. They will also be boosted by the availability of Mathews to bowl a few overs. Sri Lanka (probable): 1 Upul Tharanga, 2 Danushka Gunathilaka, 3 Sadeera Samarawickrama/Kusal Perera/Lahiru Thirimanne, 4 Niroshan Dickwella (wk), 5 Angelo Mathews, 6 Thisara Perera (capt.), 7 Asela Gunaratne 8 Chaturanga de Silva/Sachith Pathirana/Dushmantha Chameera, 9 Suranga Lakmal, 10 Nuwan Pradeep, 11 Akila Dananjaya Pitch and conditions The first-innings scores in the only three ODIs in Dharamsala have swung wildly between 190 and 330, making it hard to predict the typical nature of the surface. Usually, though, the only demon ODI tracks in India hold is slowness, which is not always the issue in Dharamsala. Thisara said it was a good batting pitch. link- http://www.espncricinfo.com/series/18074/preview/1122726/
  19. The battle of heavy weights begins...will be a scintillating contest. Rahul and Rahane will not take part.
