Vilander
Virus that killed 1000 Lions in Africa wiping out the 300 odd Indian Lions. MP govt , experts and SC have been fighting Gujarat govt for decades trying to move some of the lions to MP. Guj govt because of pathetic pride and stupidity has brought this upon us. https://www.news18.com/amp/news/india/virus-that-killed-1000-lions-in-tanzania-responsible-for-11-of-23-deaths-in-gir-toll-may-go-up-1897515.html Truly pathetic. Vilander
From 1995 to 2017 the battle raged SC order environmental ministry order... Keshubhai Patel govt n modi govt all of them were complicit in this debacle. Finally MP released the Kuno sanctury open to tigers last year.. Giving up on Asiatic lion reintroduction.. Piss poor. https://m.timesofindia.com/city/bhopal/tired-of-gujarat-reluctance-on-gir-lions-mp-to-release-tigers-in-kuno/articleshow/61937836.cms
Vilander
It is also to be noted that in 2009 when Narendra Modi was the Chief Minister of Gujarat, he entered into a public spat with the then environment minister over the relocation of lions. Ramesh, who then said that it was important for genetic stability and health, Modi, however, refused to part with the “pride of Gujarat.”

rkt.india
what has this virus to do with moving lions to MP? that is a completely different issue. Virus can kill them even in MP. UrmiSinhaRay and Moochad 1

Lion population in different area provide better protection to species.Population confined to single area is more vulnerable if epidemic spreads Vilander, UrmiSinhaRay and Stradlater 1

An epidemic has far more chances to exterminate an endangered species when they are all concentrated at one place. Lots of such cases in gujrat i suppose..lolz no wonder inspite of research and conservationalists backing the asiatic lion reintroduction failed because of this pathetic gujrati pride..simple apathy. Asiatic lions dont have a stud registry in zoos so there will be african genes in any future reintroduction.. What's the official explanation by the Gujjus? lots through the years.. 1, Tigers will eat lions ( so they moved all the tigers out of the range) 2, sanctuary does not comply to regulations ( they got all regulatory bodies to acredit and environment ministry to approve) 3,finally they dragged their feet with due process... 4, minister put pressure directly on narendra modi who was cm. 5, he said he wont part with the lions as they are 'pride of gujrat'. 6, SC made multiple rulings - they just did not comply..as sentiment of gujjus will be hurt if their state symbol lion is shared with others..morons. lowest form of irreverant apathy to a megafauna of Asian heritage, world heritage...found only in gujju land.. any other state we would have had 2-3 stable populations by now. thanks to great leaders like this..who just do not want to look at the issue with the seriousness it needs. Vilander
you would imagine that PM will want to safeguard the remaining population when all this threat of epidemic is raging over gir.. hehe well guess what.. they are more interested in making Gir a world heritage center..because of being the 'only home' of Asiatic lions https://ahmedabadmirror.indiatimes.com/ahmedabad/cover-story/pride-of-gujarat-can-become-pride-of-the-world-/articleshow/65971606.cms The PM takes keen interest in issues related to Gir. We are preparing a report to be sent to his office. Suggestions made for conservation since 2001will be included. Ramanlal Patkar, MoS, Forest If Manas and Kaziranga can get the natural heritage site tag then so can Gir Sanctuary which houses endangered species Asiatic Lion. I am not sure whether efforts are afoot to apply to the world body. -A K Sharma, retired PCCF UrmiSinhaRay, Stradlater and The Dark Horse 1

That's really shameful tbh. Had any South Indian state done it, it would have been a breaking news with pride of Gujarat Shri Amit Shah ji accusing them of Dravidian propaganda and what not.
