Some Issue's that still remain in Indian winning test team

Issue's that were visible to some experts

 

Hanuma ...not the ideal candidate for opening.

Pant's batting is crafted for odi and t20,he has enormous hitting talent and he did score few runs in this test but he takes a lot of chances, he dropped few catches too. Hope he bats n keeps better in next test.

Ishant was not at his best in this test too..Bumrah rocked and even shammi got some wickets n jaddu was tremendous on a track that didn't spin much..Ishant is not delivering as expected.

Our tail end batsman shammi ishant bumrah just don't try hard to bat but Australian Lyon n Cummins n Starc  fight till last. Shammi n umesh can bat as well as Lyon but they don't even try to fight. Shastri has to do something.

Rohit is also not suited to Tests.

     The issue will remain till  we sort out our batting. Its batting failure the issue .

      What selctors & TM should do is to identify core batting unit and give them a long rope without chopping too much.

     1. Openers :-  Need to identify consistent openers . Hopefully we are now past Dhawan, Vijay.  Looks like Shaw, Mayank & KL

        (after proving in domestic) could be the  answer . Since 2 of them are new, will need some more matches to know if these 2 

       can be relied upon. Some chinks may be expolited but i think we should just trust them unless they fail big time.

     2. Middle Order :-  Need to identify best 5 & 6 . Rahane has not done great . Hanuma -Needs urgent sorting out vs short ball. 

         ( This pool for these positions should be prime contenders  - rahane, Gill, Hanuma , Bawne - could be a name , but not sure

          how he handles pace. If all 3 openers mentioned above are in form , would prefer Mayank in middle order as first option

         rather than sitting out as he palys spin well)

         With Pujara & Virat , play from this pool who are in top form at any given time . Once openers and 5 & 6 start performing

         decent i think we are on our way.

       Nice to have options:- 

 

     3.  Spinner :-   Need one good leggie/mystery bowler as back up looking at fitness of ASH.

             Kuldeep and a leggie among Markande/Chahar  could be the pool .

     4.   Third & Fourth seamrs :- Apart from Bhumra Shami & Ishant , we need 2 more back ups   

          ( Potential pool - Siraj, Ankit , Avesh , Mavi )

Hanuma has good technique but he cannot play short stuff while Rohit can play short stuff but he is inconsistent  

pant is good but incase his keeping std goes bad we can try ishan jharkhand keeper who has better technique

It seems Siraj is stamina issue . May have to really work on fitness and conditioning. 

May have to work for another 6 months on that aspect before getting selected for India.

Middle order: Hanuma Vihari, Ankit Bawne,Karun Nair

Spinners : Kuldeep, Shreyas Gopal 

Backup Pacers : Ankit Rajput,Avesh Khan,Siraj

 

Rahane & Rahul should go n play Ranji's to prove their worth so that they can be reselected 

 

Shubman gill & Shivam Mavi not having enough exposure.. 

 

Markhande & Chahar not even played 10 FC matches.

 

Shreyas Gopal is a good all rounder to bat at 8 .. is a good leggie too .. he can be good combination with Kuldeep

long term fix is Shaw partnering Vihari and Vihari replacing Rohit. 

 

And pace bowling being managed with some fresh infusion ( Avesh, Aniket, ankit, etc)

and if someone can fuse Vihari and Rohit - that would be the best batsman in the world sort of situation. Really they complete eachother..

How people says that Vihari has good techniques but he cant play pull shots. It is contradictory by nature. He is not opening or new ball player. He should go back to domestic and figure out short balls.

Batting: Pujara + Kohli 

Bowling: Bumrah + Shami 

Rest: Hit or miss

There are many chinks in the Indian armor hidden by a very mediocre Australian team. The team is getting overhyped. Defeating England and South Africa in the respective countries would be more meaningful than defeating the current Aussie team in Australia.

3 spinners and 5 pacers.With rajpoot,siraj,mavi and avesh as replacements for umesh,ishant and shami as they slow down.Kuldeep will phase out ashwin.

I wanted Ishant out of this team till 2015 but anyone who stills want him out isnt judging him properly.

 

He is a perfect bowler for the team since 15-16 and for the sake of trying someone we want him out.

nothing "very mediocre" about the Oz bowling. hazelwood, cummins, starc and lyon (probably the best all-conditions spinner around). In fact, I rate their attack as better than the SA one or the Eng one on moderately pace-friendly pitches (not green mambas),

Regarding OP's question, I think we lack stable openers, stable middle order (5 & 6), and would benefit from a wicket-taking spinner who can operate in most conditions. of these, openers and lower middle order are the biggest issues.
