Iyer is what people think Pant is

Since August 2019, highest SR in ODI cricket : Shreyas Iyer (109)

highest SR in T20 cricket: Shreyas Iyer (154)

Shreyas Iyer is what people think Rishabh Pant is. I think Pant is a very responsible, calm and mature batsman who bats with patience but we don't need a batsman like that. We need a batsman who risks, who is an X-factor, and that is what Shreyas Iyer is.

Pant is a very responsible, calm and mature batsman? are you talking about Pant or pants in general? because Pnat is the opposite of calm and responsible.

I think in comparison to Iyer, Pant doesn't take risks. He prefers to value his wicket more than Iyer does, as evidenced by their respective strike rates.

you are looking at this wrong.Pant's SR is so low because he only has 2 -3 scoring shots(most on the leg side) and he cant rotate the strike either, all of his shots are high risk and he has no idea how to hit boundaries along the ground.

Pant may not be a comprehensive player yet. But he has certain strengths that if nurtured probably can do wonders and make him a real asset. It's really the mental side of the game that he need to work , he may not have 360 play but should be fine as long as he is taken through a system that is patient enough with him and ready to maximize his strengths and curb down on his weaknesses rather than trying to make a technically sound player out of him which is never going to happen.

Pant needs a captain like Ganguly or Dhoni under whom Yuvaraj thrived. Ganguly and Dhoni themselves had major weaknesses but given that both of them were mentally very strong, they have been very successful in their career despite deficiencies.

Rahul is the WK in shorter formats. If Pant does not keep he cannot fit into any shorter format teams.Rahul is a better fit.

Pant can simply play as a batsman in shorter format. There are clear sign of him developing a superior temperament. His over all game has also improved as well as his body balance during hitting the ball. Pant along with Gill deserves a  healthy run in ODIs. They are the future assets.

And no need to discard Iyer because of Pant. He should definitely be in consideration for T20 squad as of now. The only player who will likely miss out now is Manish Pandey.

Pant's ceiling is so high as a batsman, I bet he ends his career as the greatest left hander that India has produced. Walks into the LOI team as a pure batsman, if need be.

Question is....who keeps wickets if both Rahul and ant play? Clearly they are both would feature if we are putting up the stringest ODI XI. Also, who would open? It should be exciting times ahead. One thing is for sure - it;s going to be impossible for TM to ignore Pant going forward (except for workload reasons).
