3rd T20I (N), India tour of New Zealand at Hamilton, Jan 29 2020 12:30 PM IST

Recommended Posts

It is a World Cup year in the T20I format and perhaps a five-match series is designed precisely to help the teams work out various combinations; for New Zealand, who are missing a number of first-choice players, the incentive to completely change their approach in the next match even goes a little beyond that. At 0-2 against a good team, there is little to lose. A change in venue, from Auckland to Hamilton, should also do them some good.

It is unlikely India will tinker with either department, but with the batting line-up stepping up so impressively, they might be tempted to forego Shardul Thakur's batting ability at No. 8 for the pace of Navdeep Saini.

Nzl is trying out new combos for WT20 against a team like India where as we played our full strength teams vs Bang,WI and SL

Tbf our squad is almost settled now, so it's better to give as much game time to the best XI. Though pacers must be rested for the ODIs.

That’s true however we got lucky with Rahul because our top 3 were going to play against weaker teams and Rohit took rest for 1 series and Dhawan was injured. Once Rahul performed Dhawan fasttracked recovery and our top 2 players started avoiding rest.

Our TM and Captain don’t have a plan they just have happy accidents and even that they can’t sustain and manage to muck it up

Look at backups against weaker teams.

Tests could have been used as an opportunity to try atleast 1 new bowler in the attack.

T20s could have been used to try combos instead of same old tired and rested formula.

Odis which are obsolete for now till the next wc season could have been used to look at new players

Who are those backups and what positions would they have played? If top three rest and guys like Gill played and succeeded how will it solve middle order problem.

They did try Pant and Iyer. Now they are trying Pandey.

FYI NZ is playing new bowlers because Boult and others like Fergusson are injured.

If India win this, they should rest Kohli Shami and Rohit for the rest of the tour and have Bumrah captain... And play a XI that looks like:

Samson, Rahul, Pant, Iyer, Pandey, Dube, Sundar, Thakur, Kuldeep, Saini, Bumrah

Pandey is a relic from the previous decade who has not done anything of note in any format so giving games to him when he is now in his 30s makes little sense.

They should be building for the future with new, younger players and giving them a chance rather than recycling stale left-overs like Pandey.

It seems Virat is following MSD footsteps. "We are unchanged."

With * players he LL always be unchanged. No matter how much belting Thakur recieves he will be always brushed under the carpet.

No place for Saini, Samson, Pant, Sundar or Kuldeep as Kohli focussed winning anther meaningless bilateral series. All 5 have played less than 20 T20s and would have benefited from playing in NZ but Kohli's priorities are different.

Why could he not rest Rohit and give Samson a go at the top? or Play Sundar ahead of Jadeja? Or Saini ahead of Shami/Bumrah?

Seems a slowish wicket seen some balls holding on, also some turn for Santner. Wonder what will be a good score here

Unfortunately we dont have mentor to predict the score so this is big plus with Dhoni rahane
