Govt is majorly a representation of the people. It's silly to expect it to fill every single gap right away that this epidemic has exposed. Yes, demand more from the govt but also realise that each problem is also a factor of our sins.

 

The urban cases and lockdowns are a result of our general lack of planning and overpopulation that is a result of individuals. The gaps in health facilities are also exposed with lack of general precautions and hygiene, I mean how did garba get along with corona? Did we have perfect roads and great sense of driving or even crossing roads before this virus came along ? We've had the deadliest roads anyways, it shouldn't take migrant deaths to realise that. There have been reports of doctors being targetted in their rented places, I mean who wants to get rid of the saviors :whack2:

Overpopulation is a curse. It also puts severe constraints on resources and opportunities (less said about the planet the better). Human life is devalued.

People do not have the ability to provide 3 meals for themselves and they keep giving birth to new ones at times hoping that the children will take care of them in their old age. And the cycle continues  - exposing a large population an environment where they are usually fighting against the odds in most spheres of life.

It is nauseating to see our political class on TV arguing passionately about the welfare migrant workers. And there is a huge double standard involved here.

The centre decides on a minimum wage in India. State and Local bodies have the freedom to lower those already meagre minimum wages. This practice has been always criticised by labour activists. Most of the construction lobbies, in cahoots with the local political class offer even lower wages than the decided upon local minimum wages. These very politicos now want to cash in on the migrant labour tragedy by appearing on TV with their indignant portrayal of pseudo concern.

Even in the so called Communist states like Kerala, minimum wage was altered to a value below what the centre saw fit.

Migrant workers are not a political force. They can't vote in the state they are employed at and do not have the means to travel to their home state just for voting. As they exert no political push, their interests are generally neglected in *ALL* political calculations.
