Three medical professional associations have submitted a joint statement to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on May 25, criticising the government’s handling of the novel coronavirus epidemic and making recommendations for the future.

The signatories include former advisors to the health ministry, current and former professors at the All India Institute for Medical Sciences, Benaras Hindu University, Jawaharlal Nehru University, Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, among others.

Had the Government of India consulted epidemiologists who had better grasp of disease transmission dynamics compared to modelers, it would have perhaps been better served.

Had the migrant persons been allowed to go home at the beginning of the epidemic when the disease spread was very low, the current situation could have been avoided. The returning migrants are now taking infection to each and every corner of the country; mostly to rural and peri-urban areas, in districts with relatively weak public health systems (including clinical care)

Should have been lifted after 20-30 days... People somehow accepted till April end - nearly 40 days..

Beyond that, it was not possible for the governments (struggling to pay salaries) or for the people... freedoms lost livelihoods lost...

Have been saying open economy entirely with social distancing guidelines from past 50 days... people aren't stupid. they will take care of themselves.

Yes in hindsight this correct but even with the epidemiologists its not grantee anything would changed much as India didn't have study conducted before and you just got to see USA with all the research  & epidemiologists  what is the  situation they are now and India have some good doctors how many will be hearing what they are saying with economy now?

Yes migrants going home would be great  but I bet government was banking on heat theory and hoping open up soon hoping the virus which failed  and it was very sad  to see labors suffer and really wish it was handled better as they were one main reason for Indian economy growth  and I guess they will not going to cities soon

India's failure is been to  come with plan B, C etc, The lock-down worked to control but couldn't eradicate now we don't have another plan which is being communicated which main concern. Like  the below

I have seen this being communicated in Germany

What will do if cases increase more than healthcare capacity?

What Situation we might need go back in lock down?

What are they doing now to controls disease?

We did a good job till May 3rd with Plan A but with Plan A economic side effects. we  now seem drifting into danger zone with no Plan B .

Mismanagement is Brazil

Disease spread in India is negligible and controlled.

The lockdown was to prevent healthcare being overloaded.

Don't look at far away places... Brazil has had winter onset...look closer home...pak, BD, nepal, lanka , entire Africa, ASEAN.... nobody is worse off than us. More or less same as us....so I don't know what to give credit for. Rather livelihoods, freedoms hurt.
