500 or more runs in a test series excl BD and ZIM

  • Most # of times - Gavaskar (6 times)
  • Next best - Kohli (4 times)
  • 2 times - Vishwanath, Amarnath and Dravid
  • For an AR - Vinoo Mankad v NZ in 55/56
  • For a WK - Kunderan v Eng in 63/64

Which one is your favorite performance? Will Kohli go past Gavaskar?

Wait a minute? Are we missing a famous name here?

Was there a fab 5 or something? I can see Dravid, Sehwag, VVS, even Dada. Who completes that fab whatever

I would take multiple  300 + run series over 1-2  one off series where a batsman might have been in a purple patch :)

Kohli and Gavaskar also have the best innings/100 among batsmen with 5k or more runs (excl BD and Zim):

Kohli and Pujara, because they are current players, their numbers could change

Tendulkar had multiple 90s but I think Ganguly is unluckiest. He had 2 99s and 1 98 not out.

400 or more is a long list as many players have lots of it. Gavaskar has done it 10 times, Tendulkar 7 times (though played the most series), Dravid 6 times, Vishwanath 5 times, Amarnath and the swashbuckling Sehwag 4 times in relatively less series, etc. .... In his relatively short career, Pujara has done it 5 times already for e.g.

Rohit Sharma quite impressive.

Only 4 innings, over 500 runs and most importantly India won all three matches.

A supreme batsman is sub continent conditions, should have been given a place in starting 11 a lot more than he has been in test cricket.

Has been poorly handled. In Nzl 2014 looked the most comfortable bat on green mambas. Not sure why he was shifted up and down the order.

This is why stats don’t convey the whole picture.

He played the best knock in the series. That 72 on a geeen mamba against Boult/Southee and then the final notout to save the game. It’s all about impact.

Stats will say Shan Masood scored more than Butler in the 1st test vs Pak but who  had the ultimate impact matters.

Why are you highlighting his strike rate in test match cricket? and you are fan of pujara lol.

What impact did he have? Ind lost the first test and in the 2nd, Kohli scored 105 not out and India had Rahane, Dhoni, etc. still to come

As for favorite 500 or more runs series performance(s) esp. in drawn or win series:

 a) Gavaskar in WI to bring Ind its first series win

b) VVS v Aus at home
c) Pujara in Aus to help Ind win in Aus for the first time

If I have to pick one - probably Pujara’s .... Best knock among these - VVS’s

Now we need someone to do that in SA to win a series there!
