From the top of my head and in no particular order, some of the cool entries that AB has made in his films:

  • Deewar - From dock yard to the fight in go-down
  • Muqadaar ka Sikandar - From the song to the fight in Sikander Market
  • Don - The briefcase throw
  • Suhaag - Kaun se chappal?
  • Coolie - The walk on the top of the train

One basic problem I see with just adjustment for inflation across eras is that back in the late 70s and early 80s, Bollywood movie had a huge monopoly over entertainment. The options were limited. Now there are web series, satellite tv channels etc and all view for a share of the same pie.

Ergo, a hit in the yesteryear, necessarily meant a much larger percentage of the general public viewed the movie in the hall vis a vis now.

Agree but let's not forget that the population growth has been significant too:

  • Ind population in 1980 was approx. 700M
  • Today it is 1.32 B (almost double)

Additionally, there are new revenue streams available including overseas market which was not relatively as accessible to film makers of the 20th century

This is right up there and interestingly is also a personal favourite of his. It's a shoddy production on so many levels but for some reason hits the spot, never quite figured it out.

I am surprised nobody mentioned it. Ye it is a Scarface rip off...but still epic. That voice!

Recently, rewatched Muqaddar Ka Sikander .... what a movie :hatsoff:

****

One con of movies of 70s in general is the lead actor as the kid part where he goes through hardship. At times, he loses his brother when the kid brother asks for water and he gets out of the train to get it but the train starts moving (the kid brother could easily jump out of the slow moving train but then there would be no movie), etc. etc.  .... I usually skip the kid growing up part and watch from when the lead actors grow up (entry)

May be they should re-edit some of the classics to make them more in sync with today's times. For e.g. many watching movies like Deewar for the first time could get lost in the first 30 mins or so when the kids are shown to be growing up and going through all the troubles. Many of the recent movie watchers are likely to leave the movie before even the main event starts and thus miss out on such all time great films

Not a Big B film but revisited Qurbani. This evergreen film never fails to entertains. Songs and back ground music are amazing. Amjad Khan's role still made me laugh. Feroz Khan and Vinod Khanna are awesome .... Not surprisingly, it was the biggest blockbuster of 1980 and still is one of the most stylish Bollywood movies
