    Tests 11 v ODIs 11

You could/should make the ODI XI a lot stronger by getting better opener(s) and putting Ponting where he belongs at 3- that way they have a real shot at winning test series. Going back to the OP, I reckon Test XI wins test series 2-1 and ODI XI wins ODIs by same margin... each teams bowling attacks should get them a win in their "other" format

  3. Need to give guys who have done well in IPL a long consistent run out in T20Is: Surya Kumar, Nitish Rana, Samson, Shreyas Gopal, Rajpoot, Dinesh K
  4. Good point lol. ABDV, Amla and POllock were all terrible. Have to get in Cronje or Faf and drop Amla
  5. De Kock, Gibbs, Amla, Kallis, De Villiers, Rhodes, Klusener, S Pollock, Donald, Morkel, Tahir Amla is a bit shoe horned in there, forcing both Kallis and AB one spot lower than they should... but feel like Amla can not be left out
  6. @Rasgulla @coffee_rules Dig a bit deeper and Dravids stats are boosted by that one series in 2001, in particular the 180. Tendulkars are hit by being forced to play a test with an inured elbow in Nagpur in 2004; meanwhile he averages 46 in 1999/00 tour of Aus as captain of one of a terrible Indian touring team- a tour where Dravid and Ganguly struggled; and 50 in the historic 00/01 tour KP is a genius but by the time he was hammering McWarne they were well into their mid 30's
  7. Thisala Perera should be in at 7 for me.
  8. I did not consider Ranatunga that seriously mainly because needed someone to bat at 6 or 7... and T Perera was a better fit there and he bowls. But there is more than enough bowling options for a batsman instead.
  9. Jayasuriya Dilshan Sangakarra (wk) Jayawardena (c) A De Silva Matthews T Perera C Vaas L Malinga N Kulasekara M Murailtharan -------- Good team, though not in the class of other all time ODI XIs- deep batting, lots of bowling options, should be a tough proposition in home conditions
  10. Praveen was ok. There are "better" options: Paras Mhambrey for eg

    Vinoo Mankad

Indian great. Does not have the fame he deserves tbh. Those runs at lords were opening against Truman and Bedser; also scored two in a match vs Lindwall and Miller in Australia. Batted in every position in the lineup, funnily enough. Even though he was such a good opener.
  12. Roy Fredricks Saeed Anwar Brian Lara Viv Richards Gary Sobers Les Ames Kapil Dev Wasim Akram Richard Hadlee Richie Benaud Joel Garner
  13. SRK is a good actor, yes he has done the same type of role too many times but more than enough on his CV- especially in the so called anti hero role, then factor in more serious drama like Swades and Chak De- to show his versatility. I wish he would permanently go on to more mature roles the way Akshay has done. No he is not conventionally good looking, much less so than Aamir and Salman. But the point about his charm and wit is a good one
  14. Ok, so this is my attempt at an XI that wont get into an "all time " dream team, but are greats of their nations and in a lineup that works in ODIs and Tests :) Hashim Amla Saeed Anwar Joe Root Inzamam Ul Haq Kevin Pieterson Brendon McCullum Andrew Flintoff Daniel Vettori Graeme Swann Mitchell Johnson Shoaib Akhtar
  15. Arguably, Pollock and Waqar in ODIs and Kumble (at home :-) ) In Tests are Tier 1... thats why as you say they can run through sides. But a team of "tier 1" greats will beat this side 7 to 8/10 times ... Zens team would in tests for eg ODI team to beat that one convincingly in a series: Tendulkar, Rohit, Ponting, Virat, ABDV, Buttler, Kapil, Warne, Starc, Ambrose, McGrath
  16. If an all time West Indian test XI was to play in the Subcontinent one would definitely pick Gibbs and probably even Alf Valentine as well.
  17. I thought it was "too soon" to consider Hope and Pooran.
  18. Interesting thanks. Did know that Greenidge was destructive on his day, but yes the SR swayed me. Dont think Hoopers bowling would be needed with Gayle and Viv (all three being offies too) and Chanders was much more reliable batsmen. Saying that if you're 90's kid you have a soft spot for Carl Hooper :)
  19. Haynes Gayle Lara Richards Chanderpaul Lloyd (c) DuJon Marshall Garner Walsh Ambrose -------- Discuss. Went for Gayle instead of Greenidge , Richardson being the other contender, because his explosiveness and bowling. Other options include drop Chanderpaul and 5 man pace attack with say Holding in. Thought about Carl Hooper too.
  20. Tendulkar, Jayasuriya, Ponting, Virat, De Villiers, Stokes, Buttler, Warne, Donald, McGrath, Starc v Haynes, Greenidge, Richards, Abbas, Lloyd, Imran, Kapil, Dujon, Hadlee, Qadir, Garner As you the power and athleticism that comes from progression in time will prove the difference; skill, and talent wise the two are even

    Rank MI films

Bourne films are bit more gritty/intense; MI 4 to 6 has humour in it to keep it going. The Bourne fights as Coffee says are sick (MI ones are bit less realistic/gritty) the hand to hand action in the bourne films are awesome The MI with Philip Hoffman in it (3?) Was the best, mainly because of him being in it a genuinely fearsome villain. Rest are a little but samey, all awesome action films. I wish we could see more of Jeremy Renner in the last two films though
  22. FAILURE TO PREPARE IS PREPARING TO FAIL Make sure there is little to no limited overs cricket in the preceding months so players are fresh. Have a 3 week intense training camp immediately before , hone skills including judgement outside off, lengths to bowl etc, have at least two 4 day first class matches before the first test.
  23. I know he was dropped during it, but his century at Edgbaston is his best knock: the context of it all, battling Anderson against whom he struggled so much on the previous tour .. 149 out of 274, 26 was the next highest score
