  1. Read the rules first: Do not predict after the game has started. Predictions stop at 5.30 am EST of the match day. If predictions are open for more than one game, you get all your prediction in by 5.30 am EST on the day of the first game. If you predict after the deadline, you could get a -5 points penalty Give yourself a point for every correct prediction in the group games, 2 points for the correct SF winner predictions, and 4 points for the correct F winner prediction. No unnecessary editing. Any editing after 5.30 am EST of the first game of open predictions is subject to the same penalty of -5 points Try to have all your predictions for the open games in one post I may hand out an audiobook code of my book to the winner BOL Prediction open for the following games below: Aus v SA at DSC Eng v WI at DSC BD v SL at S'jah Ind v Pak at DSC AFG v SCO at S'jah (1 point for the each correct prediction in the group games)
  2. Cricketing reasons: Openers are in the process of striking form. Pace bowling attack is competitive. Zampa is stepping up. Maxwell & Stoinis can be a handful with both the bat and the ball. Smith is doing well in his role as the floater. Non cricketing reasons: Yellow could be the lucky color in 2021 ... Next year, Aus could be destined to be both host and defending champion Aus could have a bad game. If that happens at the group stage, would like to see how the team bounces back. Other potentially lucky teams (it terms of potential and form, there is nothing much to seperate): Eng under Captain Morgan NZ as 2021 has been strong for it Pak, if it does not lose steam (could be one bad game away from falling apart) and so on as you cannot write any good team off in this format - AFG or NAM can surprise too
  3. ENG and NZ, the two teams that tend to thrive in pressure situations, meet again in a world cup knockout game. Their last meeting at the 2019 ODI World Cup was memorable as we probably watched the best ODI game in the history of cricket. If the recent history is anything to go by, it could be a close game. Pre-match, I see it as a 50/50 game. Both the teams are led by astute and stoic captains. Both teams have won the last two world titles, England the ODI world cup champions, and NZ, the World Test Champions. Both teams are pretty good fielding sides as well. Where they differ is in their key strength - batting for Eng and bowling for NZ. The game could also turn into a battle of power plays with England's key in form batsmen Buttler, Bairstow, and Moeen battling the Kiwi swing bowlers. Toss, if dew settles in, could play a role too. Both the teams have played one game at Abu Dhabi where they dismissed their opposition for 124 and chased the target with 8 wkts remaining. So again a lot of commonalities b/w these two sides. Whichever team wins, let's hope for some great cricket! Cricinfo preview - Link ... Poll added for poll lovers. It closes before the toss tomorrow. Recent happy moments for these teams: BOL to both the teams!!

  6. A quick match thread - Eng v SL. SL won the toss and will field. This is a positive for Eng, which is in SF, to be able to bat first to for the first time.
  7. Another potential cracker of a game on cards. As WI win over BD and AFG fight against Pak showed, you do not need to worry about batting first if you are prepared to play good cricket and fight it out! So far in G1, these two have been the best teams on display, therefore the winner of the game is expected to book a place in the knockouts. For this game, I am expecting the tactics from the captains to be almost spot on. May see some innovation as well unless one of the sides has a bad day, in which case the other team does not need to push itself much. Again, will not bother with stats and matchups as teams should have identified their inform players by now and use them according to the situation. Cricinfo preview - Link. 8. A game that has the potential to be an edge of the seat thriller. At one corner, we have the dark horses, the AFG Snow Leopards. Diagonally, across them are the favorites to top G2, the PAK Markhors! Both can be extremely dangerous on their day, which is a Friday! It is an evening game, so dew could be a major factor. PAK has won two tosses, so maybe it is time for AFG to win its. AFG's bowling is among the best for the conditions and in dew, the Snow Leopards batsmen can be as good as of most teams. I will not waste time with stats (unfiltered stats mean zilch) and stuff like matchups (no point w/o knowing how the data is created) as they may not account for much. It is a new day where it depends upon how you turn up. If an off spinner has a great record v a left hander, but if the left hander is playing superbly and/or the off-spinner bowling badly, it accounts for nothing. Which is why captaincy is important in cricket as you have to look at who is bowling and batting well to take those decision. It is good to have a L-R combination if those batsmen are all playing well but you do not promote a slow batsman to maintain that combination in death overs. Give a few more overs to your best in-form strike bowlers in PPs. TM also has to see who is shaping up well even in nets. Unlike India, I expect other subcon teams to be relatively more "street smart". Get yourself buckled up for a potentially wild encounter: v Fans: Afganistani born Annet Mahendru Pak's Mahira Khan Cricinfo Preview ... Poll added for poll lovers. 9. My favorite Indian cricketer for a) talent, b) fearless attitude, c) multiple skills (when fully fit). A thread for his fans! He got injured in the last game so do not know the status but if he plays, I want him to bat during the middle overs to take on 4th-5th-6th bowlers. I do not want Ind to milk this period of play to rely heavily on death overs, which can be a lottery. SDP's job should be to go for big hits fearlessly without worrying about getting out. If he gets out, it is ok as other batsmen can play out the 20 overs by getting odd hits in. SDP should be the game changer and momentum creator. Apart from that I want every Indian batsmen to press on full throttle once they have played 20 balls (earlier the better). Many times, we see some of the batsmen continue to milk the bowling even after playing 30-40 balls (and even when 4th-5th-6th bowlers are on), only opening up later on (and even get out as soon as they change gears despite playing so many balls) and at times the hitting is left to the point when there is no other option. I also read many posts where people expect a new batsman to play as if he has played 10-20 balls and has time to wait for loose balls. Batting at the death, if you wait, the game could get over before you know. You have to make things happen. You cannot play like a Rohit/Kohli for example where you do tuk tuk for 19 balls to be 19 off 19 and when a short ball is bowled, you hit it for a 6 to be 25 off 20 (that is not T20s unless the conditions demand that). Then rinse and repeat. At the end (or any time in T20s), you need to create opportunities even on balls that are difficult to hit. Sir Don Pandya, go out and play the most fearless cricket that you can play. Ind make something out of the tournament or go out in style entertaining fans:
