The Gabbar Singh character was actually inspired by the character Jabbar Singh played by Vinod Khanna in Mera Gaon Mera Des

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uYtEeuU4qLA

probably vinod khanna's role also got inspired by el indio as well :p:

all indian masala movies copied sphgati western movies left , right and center .. tollywood went extreme and did exact replica with golt actors.. :giggle:

thakur family murder vs mcbain family massacre ..  more stylish with awesome background score :hail:

Gabbar Singh squashing an ant to indicate how they killed that Sachin char, is totally inspired or paying homage to the scene where El Indio does the same in For a few $s more

The whole point of a villain in these movies is that he leaves an indelible mark on the viewer with his dialogue delivery and/or costume.

Jabbar Singh ( and Gabbar Singh) were supposed to brash and despotic.

We don't like the smart villains in our movies, we just elect them instead. :dontknow:

Also, I attached some really bad re-mix version of the song. Exactly what @riya mentioned in the other thread.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kug9txsXQws

The song is very humable. And the strong glaring by Laxmi Chayya and Dharmendra. Mashallah, if only looks could kill.

PS: That Indio guy has nothing on Gabbar Singh. Even the name sounds like a dye, and not that of a mega villain.

Occasionally I read the Inquilab. The Urdu press is basically a joke and most of the stuff they churn out is outrageous, except a few editorials and their HILARIOUS movie reviews. They have recently started a word of the day thing. Where they take up a word and go through its etymology.

The word for the day was: mawali

It comes from the fact that most of Shivaji Maharaj's soldiers were from the Mawal region/tribe. And the Mughals used the word mawali for them. But back then it didn't have the negative connotation that it does now and meant people who were sinewy and lithe. A generation after the death of Shivaji Maharaj, when the Marathas became brigands and plundered farms and cities the word mawali assumed its current meaning: ruffian. And that is the meaning that stuck.

From Bollywood's context, maybe, but Dang is not an uncommon last name, while Mogambo (the greatest) was a film starring Clark Gable:

which was a remake of Red Dust, which also has Gable in the leading role:
