So the theme in EU is "winter is coming". They're talking of 5-10 years of potentially troublesome winters with cutbacks & price caps.

Any european members here wanna share the impact they see on their power bills among other things as well as society in general ?

Since 1944, I believe this will be the most important time for weather forecasters.

In plain sight, Europe should have no problem if Canada increase the production and export to Europe. Natural Gas price in Canada is very low and Canada alone can produce enough gas for Europe. Or even US. US is top natural gas producer. Right now Europe is buying refined oil from India and India is getting that oil from Russia. refining that abd selling it to Europe.

You can’t transport gas easily you will need pipelines to do that.

Energy bills have skyrocketed in the the UK due to the price 'cap' being changed to support energy firms as opposed to the customers.

Due to over reliance on exported energy and no storage facilities of gas.. we are buying cheap gas, selling it to Europe and buying it back at higher prices.. There is no cap for business bills... which means if the Bill freeze proposed by Truss doesnt happen thousands of small businesses could fold with many job losses and a deep recession.

Brits were saying at the start of the Invasion that they are ready to suffer a bit to support ukraine.. karlo suffer. When the country is not self sufficient in its energy production and has the balls to put sanctions on the worlds main energy supplier which impacts market prices as well as finding billions to send to Ukraine for arms.. prices of everything has gone up. Its crazy

What's the magnitude of change ? Say the bill was x pounds last year for a given month, is it 4x this year, residential and commercial ?

Bills have rocketed from example 70 a month to 300 a month so a 4,5x increase for residential where a cap is there but its constantly increasing.

For small businesses for example its gone up for 3000 a year to 25K a year so like a 8x increase as an example

You see how clueless and dumb UK politicians are that they are ready to let their citizens suffer just to play geopolitical games of the US

Are they looking to find alternatives?

There is no alternative- their Green energy sources are run on gas. Although only 5% of gas is imported from Russia, the rest of Europe is buying it from other sources which means prices shoot up for users in the UK too.

Greens didnt allow nuclear to be an option, coal mines which have billions of tons stored are closed, Solar isnt reliable and Wind energy isnt wither due to less wind than normal. The North Sea gas industry isnt enough to sustain the UK needs and the green options are unreliable. They also tie the prices of green sources to the most expensive fossil fuel sources. Tories closed down the gas storage facilities so even if we buy cheaper gas from other countries we have nowhere to store it which means selling it to Europe and buying it back it insane prices

That's a crazy rise in bills, can lead to shutting down of businesses and a proper recession.

One has to wonder who's sanctioning whom at the end of the day, energy impact is way bigger than most restrictions from the west.

Lower income countries especially those dependent on gas will struggle even more since the Europeans will capture other sources such as Qatar & Algeria. Shale gas will also be in the reckoning.

Businesses have started to warn that if there is no stop to the rise in bills many will have to shut down- many have started reducing their opening hours already. This could potentially be a worse recession than 2008. All in the name for playing games with Putin

Fracking for shale gas is not allowed in the UK either due to numpty Greens

I was referring to Uncle Sam's love for shale. They did a Berlin airlift op in the early days of the cold war, it could be a big sea op this time.

Even UK/EU can update rules like they did for coal & nuclear. Climate change can go **** itself.

US Strategic Petroleum Reserve Is At Its Lowest Level Since 1984

960x0.png?format=png&width=960

Quote

An administration that has frequently emphasized the importance of reducing carbon emissions is trying to increase oil supplies to bring down rising oil prices — which will in turn help keep demand (and carbon emissions) high.

But even though the Biden Administration wants to address rising carbon emissions, high gasoline prices cause incumbents to lose elections. So, they try to tame gasoline prices even though it contradicts one of their key objectives of reducing carbon emissions.
