Shardul Thakur : Your thoughts after his first game?

Recommended Posts

His spray gun bowling is frustrating. His stock ball is so good and with his pace, he can take loads of wickets. But he needs to focus and discipline himself.

He has been in Oz all through the tour and this would have been a good opportunity for Bharat Arun to help Shardul get consistent.

That maiden over at the end of day#1 was just fabulous with consistent line, great lengths and away swing. It reminded me of Hilfenhaus's accuracy over after over.

Here's hoping that Shardul takes the confidence of his batting innings and delivers a consistent bowling performance in the second innings. Our team will benefit from such gritty players who can fight out in tough situations.

Offers better value than Hardik Pandya (with his constant fitness issues) as a seam bowling all rounder. If he learns to get his length right consistently, he will be a handlful with his away swing in England, SA, and WI - the only places where we need a seaming allrounder.

On a sidenote - really impressed with Sundar's batting as well. Not yet sold on his offbreaks (but good enough against non-asian teams).

Yes at least we have a half jaddu replacement. His competitors will be jayant yadav, axar and krunal..not sure though if he will be picked for England

Actually he has good chance of doing well in England with Duke as he is swing bowler . Control over line & Length is what required. Needs a  include a good in ducker.

Yes.  Shardul was a decent outswing bowler but his problem was accuracy. It seems that he has improved this aspect somewhat. Still early days to judge though.

One advantage that he has, over standard swing bowlers like Chahar, is that he has a decent bouncer too and can hit the deck when needed. Same with Siraj.

On the England tour

7. Jadeja

8. Shardul / Hardik

9. Shami / Ishant

10. Bumrah

11. Siraj

could be a good line up.

Should Ash be the lone spinner looking at how he is bowling now in place of Jaddu in Eng and that is where Hardik or Shardul may be preferred at 7  to have long batting  rather than pure bowler and Ash at 8 .

Ash is a No.8 batter now. So is Shardul

If Ash plays then Shardul has to be dropped and we have to play either Jadeja or Hardik at 7.

Having Jadeja as the lone spinner allows us to play 4 specialist pace bowlers ... 2 fast bowlers + 2 swing bowlers. This will give us tremendous versatility.

Don't you think this can be an advantage in England ?
