varun Posted July 16, 2007 Posted July 16, 2007 Guess what Varun' date=' I cannot change the title either. I can make changes but it is not retained in the forums snippet of the topic title.[/quote'] Hmm.. I'm not sure what you mean by the "forums snippet"
Rajiv Posted July 16, 2007 Posted July 16, 2007 I can change title by double clicking it ( but NOT inside the post, only from outside ) But I think its a mod feature only
Cricketics Posted July 16, 2007 Posted July 16, 2007 I can change title by double clicking it ( but NOT inside the post, only from outside ) But I think its a mod feature only as the forum is vb based.. when u open any thread, go on thread tools, then u will see a drop down list, choose "edit thread" this would allow u to edit the title of the thread..
varun Posted July 16, 2007 Posted July 16, 2007 as the forum is vb based.. when u open any thread, go on thread tools, then u will see a drop down list, choose "edit thread" this would allow u to edit the title of the thread.. As ravi mentioned above Cricketics, that only changes the first post's title, not the thread title as displayed in the main forum page (where the list of all threads is shown). To fix that, what Rajeev said (i.e. double clicking the thread row) needs to be done. Either way, I'm afraid I can't figure out a way to enable this for normal users unless by hacking away at the source.. If there's a large enough demand for this, I'll try it out some time soon.
Ram Posted July 18, 2007 Posted July 18, 2007 How about having a banner that alternates between two or three banners ? instead of just having one static one ? Most cool websites have some amt of dynamic feature in them, be it changing pics or embedded video.
King Posted July 18, 2007 Posted July 18, 2007 We can do that no worries. Varun if you want me to install a dynamic banner rotation patch let me know or you can do it if you want to.
varun Posted July 18, 2007 Posted July 18, 2007 Hmm.. u could do that if you want Ravi, but the template's been customized quite a bit, so a simple banner rotation patch wouldn't really work I believe. I'll probably have to modify the php a bit. Btw, I personally would prefer if the banner reflected what's going on currently (like the india-england series), and not be too flashy (i.e. videos or flash n what not) that it distracts away from the page content. The banner rotation thing is good if it rotates every week or so, and not on every page refresh.. 'coz that could be confusing and takes away from the site identity if u will. Weekly rotations can anyway be accomplished manually, and then I'd probably come up with a banner reflecting what's going on with indian cricket at the time. Feel free to pitch in ideas for a new banner if you guys don't like the current one, or have any suggestions.

The Homepage should always be made as attractive and interesting as possible, without looking too flashy.A rotating banner serves both the purposes i feel. Many users would typing the ICF address considering the fact that the videos have attracted so many views .A good homepage is almost guaranteed to ensure that they surf more. The site's identity is Cricket. How will a rotating banner portraying different cricket themes move away from that theme ? Besides , ONLY regular visitors of the site would know that we had different banners for different series since they have seen it change themselves and can spot the difference. For first time viewers , it would make absolutely no difference if the banner had Sachin tendulkar celebrating a century or Sreesanth doing a jig ! Ofcourse , all this is assuming that a rotating banner makes a homepage more attaractive. I maybe totally wrong in that. Do ask around for opinions.

Right, but the banner is visible in all pages, not just the homepage. So every time u view a new thread, and the banner changes drastically, that's distracting. Slightly tend to disagree with that. Say if i rotated between the Sachin banner and the current one.. yeah that would do, but if I added in the old default ICF banner, that's a sudden departure from the current color scheme, and would look out of place. Doing this would entail that I create 5-6 similar looking banners for each color scheme, and it's a bit of work to create these ya know :) .. I think I'll put out the psd (photoshop) file for the banner online and let users pitch in new banners if they want.
Ram Posted July 18, 2007 Posted July 18, 2007 Right' date=' but the banner is visible in all pages, not just the homepage. So every time u view a new thread, and the banner changes drastically, that's distracting.[/quote'] Yes , I though of that too. It WOULD be distracting to see the image on top changing every 2-3 secs. I was gonna ask you if it is possible to limit this dynamic feature to the home-page alone. Even if that is not possible, it is very rare that i see the banner once i start posting, since i scroll down to the latest post and banner almost always goes out of view. But yes , what you said is a VERY pertinent point. It wouldn't if the color scheme is still the same. The rotating banners must have similar themes for uniformity. Maybe we can have A set of banners for a month maybe ? In that way , we can still have rotating banners and also make sure you dont end up wasting too much time on it. Keep in mind that this is essentially to attract newcomers to the site , which i think is the key to its growth. Adding functionality to the current one is also important ( like psd file you mentioned) but they bringing in newcomers should also get equal priority if the site has to keep growing.
varun Posted July 18, 2007 Posted July 18, 2007 You see the picture of mine on my signatures. It´s too small, I want it in bit bigger size but don´t how to do it. Or, is there anyway at all to do it? Please help me! Any help will be appreciated warm-heartedly! I'm afraid we've limited the signature picture size Rawal to keep the page loading time low and not clutter up the threads with too many big pictures.
theguyinallblue Posted July 21, 2007 Posted July 21, 2007 i have noticed that if a thread has run into many pages... it has direct link to first 3 pages and last page..( 1,2,3,.....Last Page) for a thread that has run into 10 pages.. can it be configured to look like ( 1,2,3,4,5,.......8,9,Last Page).. or at least (1,2,3,4,5,......9,last page) or I DEMAND to increase the limit to 5 pages ex: 1,2,3,4,5,.......Last page :D
varun Posted July 22, 2007 Posted July 22, 2007 or I DEMAND to increase the limit to 5 pages ex: 1,2,3,4,5,.......Last page :D lol, done
apocalypse Posted July 22, 2007 Posted July 22, 2007 lol' date=' done[/quote'] do i need to logout and clear cache to see that?
varun Posted July 22, 2007 Posted July 22, 2007 do i need to logout and clear cache to see that? Sure why not, I can see it without logging out tho.. The only change is, that instead of 1..2..3.. it now shows upto 5 in the forums page (i.e. where the list of threads is shown)
apocalypse Posted July 22, 2007 Posted July 22, 2007 somehow I cant see it... but I am fine with this look also
Ram Posted July 27, 2007 Posted July 27, 2007 Good job in adding the spell-check feature ! saves me a lot of blushes ! And 1) what is a subscribed post ? 2) What is a referral ?
Cricketics Posted July 27, 2007 Posted July 27, 2007 Good job in adding the spell-check feature ! saves me a lot of blushes ! And 1) what is a subscribed post ? 2) What is a referral ? subscribed post if i am right are the threads in which u reply.... and it automatically gets subscribed.. u would have to go to user cp to cancel subscription of some thread.. referral would be perhapz a member who joined this site and was referred by you... suppose when registering if i had placed ur name as referred by, then it would say 1 next to referral
