The ease with which Pant was batting today against quality bowlers in tough batting conditions ... he should be in considered as a specialist batsman even if the TM somehow want to play Kirmani or Farooq Engineer for their keeping skills.

Pant was driving and pulling Cummins ( in full flow ) with ease.

Anyone who drops him from this test batting line-up, does not understand cricket.

Are you suggesting Kohli does not understand Cricket? :nono:

Gill is playing in an assured manner in the 2nd innings.

Looking good

Scoring fast ... playing lots of strokes comfortably.

But needs to be more definitive with his front foot movement. He is sometimes playing strokes away from his body without going to the line of the ball.

He is more in the Laxman mould where it is all Hand-Eye co-ordination. He will do well in decent batting conditions, but will likely suffer when ball moves around. If we find a better opener we should move him to middle order to make the best use of him.

Effect of short formats. Hope he is not selected in T20 for at least 2 years .  Should only play Tests & 50 overs .

No ... Gill's batting is not highly dependant on hand eye co-ordination.

This is a recent issue he has developed most probably from the IPL.

During his U19 days, he did not have this issue.

Could be recent issue as you mention, but given he will likely be playing all formats it will be a challenge to find a technique that suits all formats. I don't want him going the KL Rahul way where he tweaked his technique so much to suit LOIs that we lost the Traditional player in him for Tests.

Agree.  He should be kept away from our T20I team, like @prudent_kreeda said.

Let him use the Kohli model of keeping his basic classical batting intact for all formats. No need to slog. Even Smith and Williamson use this.

Plenty of leg side balls not put away by Pujara and Vihari. And Pujara needs to get his hook or pull shot out, cant just check and leave every ball.

Rohit is continues to play like a Test reject, should leave Tests to grown-ups.

Pant injury :wall:, was looking really good especially with pulls, after that hit he was not going to last long

Pant proves once again that he is one of the best young batsmen we have in India now.

From now on, he should play every test match. And should be played in ODIs too.

He deserves to be played even as a specialist batsman if for some reason a specialist keeper is chosen at home.

Such batsmen can put the pressure back on the opposition by counter-attacking and mess with their lines and lengths too. Plus he is a left hander.

Well done young man !!

Records created by Rishabh Pant today:

-Fastest visiting Wicketkeeper to reach 500 runs in Australia in Tests.
-First Asian wicketkeeper to score 500 runs in Australia in Tests.
-Youngest wicketkeeper to score a 90 in 4th innings of a Test match in Australia.

But he keeps getting dropped from the team ... and every ex-player and his dog issue public statements against him.

And it's not like that he bats only one way or doesn't know how to survive.

Has good defensive technique. He was 7 from 33 balls at start?

Rarely goes for low score or gets out early.
