If there was a God, we'd have Manish Pandey, Iyer, Agarwal, and possibly Gill - all of them, in Indian LOI team today.

not enough slots for all 4. assuming rohit + keeper + VK + AR leaves only 3 slots in the top 7 remaining. I think pandey should miss out. he is a beast in domestic, but has not stepped up since his first 5-10 matches in ODIs.

He had serious issues against the moving ball too ... apart from a short ball weakness.  Hope he has worked on these 2 aspects.

His intent, scoring rate and six hitting ability are big pluses.

In the current Indian team, who doesn’t?

You are right ... only Kohli has big knocks when the ball is moving.

Anderson made him his bunny in the first tour and even in the second tour while he scored big, there wasn’t any knock of the same quality or conviction that we were used to seeing from say Sachin, Dravid or Ganguly (in England) from back in the day. He had chances but obviously good for him to make it count and won’t take anything away from him. He is obviously the best bat in the team by some margin.

Rat is still a much better player of the moving ball in comparison to VVS and Sehwag, both of whom are Indian ATGs. I like to diss him as much as the next person, but there is no need to put him down for unfair things. yes, he got chances in the 2nd tour, but he capitalized on them and showed good temperament (except in the last innings of the test, where he choked).

Kohli has scored lots of runs and has high averages in South Africa and NZ too, where the ball moves a lots.

Maniac seems to want VK to become Stewie. This is asking for the unrealistic - it is becoming more clear by the day that Smith may be a once-in-several-generations type of talent (assuming his trajectory does not fall off too much).

Yes, I didn't say all of them need to be accommodated in the playing XI. But certainly in the larger squad.

As for Pandey, he's turned it up a notch in domestics. That's all he could do and 5-10 matches is not nearly enough to discard a player.

he will probably in the mix in A squads and so on. But I would rather see Mayank, Gill, Iyer more because former 2 have gotten zero chances and the latter has done very well in the limited opportunities he had.

70 today at No. 4 stabilized the innings after the top 3 got out early.

It was a solid knock but strike rate was rahanesque at #4. When he tried to up the ante, he fell just like that person. Still he is young and has potential so stick with him at least till the next world cup.

Not a concern, Iyer's career ODI SR is 100+, even in FC it is Sehwag-esque. Can effortlessly play at that tempo unlike other #4 contenders.

Another one of those young players who the TM showed zero faith in. Was lucky to get a break after that and immediately grabbed it as expected. The risk of being destroyed by the current TM will continue to be there.

By the looks of it, he has a mind of his own, something Kohli and Shastri absolutely despise. Let's see for how long they continue to back him.
