Panchal with a pair in this match, hasn't had a great FC season at all. Easwaran has had a torrid time as well. Gill in the few matches he played wasn't too convincing either. This Ranji Trophy season has exposed India's backup options for the opener slot. Very dissapointing when there is clearly an opportunity for a classical opener in the test team.

Pitches in general have not been batting heavy in this year's Ranji Trophy, with many of them being too bowler friendly. Gill did outstandingly well vs NZ A, that is what matters the most

We can excuse Gill maybe as his sample size is a bit less compared to the other two, but still he should have had much better numbers. Could be he was not motivated enough. However, the pitches haven't been unplayable by any means though. A little bit of movement is fine and tbh Indian opening prospects should be able to negotiate such conditions to a decent degree, maybe even as the best of the lot. We are talking about test match ready players. They have been well outperformed by their own teammates and others. Panchal averages 28 something and Easwaran is less than 20. Shocking returns from these 2. If they perform so poorly when they face movement, there is no hope for international cricket.

Saw the highlights of Unadkat bowling. Mostly around 130-134 kmph, add 5-7 kmph for these slower speed guns..he could well have been bowling at average speeds of around 135 kmph. Was extracting good movement off the pitch. But somehow, still did not look convincing.

He has always bowled at least fast medium in domestic cricket but come internationals, starts hurling 125kph bullets.

Bengal coach Arun Lal slammed the pitch prepared for the Ranji Trophy final after the opening day in Rajkot, terming it as "very poor" and "not good for cricket".

On a day where Saurashtra laboured to 206 for 5, the lack of bounce was a regular feature throughout. Some deliveries, even from a short of length, rose only as high as the shin, reducing the likelihood of edges carrying to slips while also causing great difficulty to batsmen.

"Very poor wicket. The board has to look into things like this. The ball is not coming up, it is not getting off properly. It is dusting on the first day. This is very poor," Lal said.
