What should Indian team do to win next England tour ?

Watching tests in Eng is torture, they somehow always manage to * up against Pak, if Eng wins against the others I can't stand Sky team's gloating, if they are't doing well I just think about how we managed to make clowns out of ourselves the last decade over there. For me next year's Eng tour is bigger than the 2023 WC, a decade of humiliation must be avenged.

Hahaha, avenge .. Shastri is already preparing for it

If I have to pick a XI now, I will go with (horses for courses):

Gill

Mayank

Pujara

Kohli (c)

Vihari

Pant (wk)

Shankar

Bhuvi

Deepak Chahar

Ishant

Bumrah

No flashy opener, Gill plays late and Mayank has patience. Pujara guaranteed starter in all 5 tests no matter what, give him the assurance before itself and ask him to play his natural game. Shankar and Vihari can combine to fill 10-15 overs/day. No need of specialist spinner (curators will doctor pitches to eliminate threat of spin) and Shankar on a cold, overcast day will surprise many with the ball because he bowls at the right pace and has decent control...moreover ball has to do just enough to beat the edge, exaggerated movement is good for viewers but not wicket taking. 2 out and out swing bowlers in Bhuvi/Chahar who also increase our batting depth. No Shami cos he hasn't done well in Eng and please God no Umesh.

We had quite a few genuine swing bowlers in the 2000s, now mostly hit the deck guys Ishant being an exception but even he has his odd-even days jhanjhat. We overlooked Deepak Chahar for tests in Eng/NZ and Bhuvi gets injured when we need him most. Bowling attack must change next year, not necessary to play the best 4 quicks but 4 quicks who are best for those conditions. Absence of a swing specialist cost us dearly in NZ earlier this year.

First of all ,those who want rahane to captain india should be banned from this site.I dont remember the last time this guy took reponsibility against strong teams. He is india's version of asad shafiq, will play one good innings in a series to resrve his place for the next one.Kick this guy out and get shubman gill in.The role of a no.5 batsman is to consistently take team out of trouble or make a big score when there is a good foundation set, this guy fails in both scenarios.

Secondly,Shami is a great bowler but virat needs to realise that horses for courses is the best way forward.Shami has awful record in england and i am hardly surprised because he is 5ft 8 and depends on pace, bounce and reverse swing.Bhuvi kumar should be  preferred any day over shami in english and nz conditions.Bhuvneshwar is also a dependable batsman down the order which makes his case even more stronger.

Third,Hardik pandya is very important for away tours. He provides a fifth bowling options keeps the main bowlers fresh and if he  keeps his head down and work he can improve his batting,he has the potential to become a 35+ avg batsman.

Fourth ,no more sharma ,dhawan experiments please.

Fifth, make pant our permanent keeper away from home, saha karthik experiment should end.

Sixth jadeja ahead of ashwin in england. Our fast bowlers + pandya are more than enough to take 20 wickets every match,so jadeja is a better bet than ashwin.Ashwin's batting has regressed and jadejas batting has improved.Although we cant expect fifers from jadeja but he can keep it tight and can also take an ocassional wicket.

Shaw

agarwal

pujara

kohli(cap)

Shubman Gill

Hardik Pandya

Rishabh Pant(wk)

Ravindra Jadeja

Bhuvneshwar Kumar

Ishant Sharma

Bumrah

Bhuvi batting at  no.9 ,so we have considerable batting depth and 5 bowlers.

Also, why do people think that shankar is a proper batsman?I have seen no signs of that and he isnt dynamic enough to play at 6 or 7.Pandya is a better bowler, shankars dibbly dobbly can be effective in seaming conditions but when the wicket goes flat  this guy will get decimated.

We still arent that experimental to take someone like chahar only for England, WI, NZ conditions .....our team still sticks to  old formulas so if he does well in england they ll also carry him to australia where he ll be carted

You've got Sam Curran on the brain, and see him in Chahar.

How many 4 day and 5 day games has Chahar played.  How much experience and variation has he demonstrated in the longer format?

Post injury comeback, he clearly modeled his priority on the shorter format, prioritizing maximum pace for short spells.

Class is class. If you over-emphasize numbers and the wrong ones, that's how you end up dropping Pujara for Dhawan.  In England.

ohh i back him i still do, still feel his best is yet to come but as far captaincy goes....at this point his struggle as player is a problem in that path

Nope i have seen Bk n PK do well in England and then there is philander in the list as well.

Deepak pace is higher then curran , curran ends up around 125-130, Chahar can go till 140 in short spells

he has played 45 Fc games which is a good number , he burst into limelight with this spell in red ball cricket

Still one year to go, tell him play one domestic season and it shud be enough.

Modeled his priorities in young age ?? Dont think so ...he knew he had to increase pace or else he had no chance like Sandeep sharma. If that was the case he wud have stopped playing red ball domestic like rayudu did last year and even dhawan (who later had to go back to it).

Its selector who tell them what format they consider them for, Someone like adil rashid priortozed white ball cricket but his board told him that he ll be selected for India series coz how he was getting kohli out.

So basically no recent FC experience or track record to go by, but you want to pick him for your starting XI.  After he "plays one season".

Kuch bhi.

btw that video is from 10 years ago, and he's a completely different bowler, with a different action.

If Gill opens in Australia then he may open but tbh I guess he will play at no 5 instead of Rahane who is beyond finished.  I'll keep Shankar in the mix instead of Pandya.  Deepak Chahar is a must in Eng invaluable bowler to have in those conditions may win us the series actually coz swing bowler is a must in England.  Bhuvi- the trundler & blunt spearhead,  the injury man needs to be not even near the test side.  Hearing Kuldeep is trying to increase his pace these days,  so we should take him to Australia to see how he goes.  Gill,  Mayank Shaw,  Pujara all play square cuts so they are a must in Playing XI.

he played his last Fc game in 2019 so how not recent, he cant play a lot of domestic coz he is constantly a part of india n India -A squad. As if he is old or hasnt played red ball cricket in 5 years ....we picked rohit sharma as test opener when that guy hasnt played domestic red ball in ages.

One season is more then enough and if needed there are A tours

Nowhere did i picked starting XI , i said in squad . I dont pick starting XI a year before its pointless

and has he lost the swing? he still swings the ball quite big . If anything he is a much much better bowler now
