What should Indian team do to win next England tour ?

Recommended Posts

You are Cricket forum version of mulo, keep arguing till the  cows keel over and die from hearing exhaustion, so I'm going to call it an end here.  But advocating Chahar in a test squad is silly.  He's got a lot to prove and a long way to go, before that happens.

Why stop there, why don't you push for Pintu Parcha for the next T20 WC.  He's got those unorthodox six hitting skills.

India has always been a mediocre side overseas and even with all the evolution, it still remains a pedestrian team overseas in tests as results have shown. It needs a lot to go right for India and a lot to go wrong for the opposition for India to be victorious overseas.  If you see India's  history, we have mostly eeked out series win with a solitary win in a series.

So, it's not easy to list out factors for getting better.

We have too many one dimensional players.

Look at even the WI team, they have 4 fast bowlers including a competent test allrounder not a bits and pieces LOI hack and a spinner who can bat.

Even though we have 5 very good pace bowlers and none of them can hold the bat to save their lives bar Bhuvi who is the weakest of the lot. Our spinners though can bat be it Ash or Jadeja or even Kuldeep who can hold one end up.

Kohli the captain cant differentiate between conditions,he will always start with Umesh and end up loosing ,by the time he realises his true worth in alien conditions we will be trailing 2-0 , don't know about Deepak Chahar

Chahar barely plays red ball cricket

This thread brought back some unhappy memories and I had to watch this knock for some peace. The precious Indian school of batting (ISB)has dropped in standards.

Smacking Adil Rashid for 19 runs including a 6 over his head is how Indian batsmen used to treat spinners.

So many of us scratching our heads here and business is bound to continue as usual.

Kaptaan will choose odi bats like Rohit for opening,

Dhawan will be busy goofing and thigh thumping while claiming that losses are hurting,

Kaptaan will put pressure on Pujara for SR and he will choke

Rahane will score a fifty & continue to be miserable in 9 other innings,

Ashwin will try his 745 variations and still be outbowled by Moeen,

phaashht bowlers will pick wickets although not as effectively as conditions allow

bevda will continue to be talli during match and advertise other drinks & booze outside of it.

FAILURE TO PREPARE IS PREPARING TO FAIL

Make sure there is little to no limited overs cricket in the preceding months so players are fresh. Have a 3 week intense training camp immediately before , hone skills including judgement outside off, lengths to bowl etc, have at least two 4 day first class matches before the first test.

A random fact ....

We haven't won a series in England since the arrival of IPL.

Perhaps a change in mentality for the batsmen.

yes because as always the england series is right after this tatti cup and leaves no room in the calendar for 2/3 warm up games with english first class teams. When you have no acclimatisation for the tour you are always bound to get thrashed.

I wont get into form n fitness of current squad as who knws about that aspect next year. Anyone can get unfit any time. Anyone can strike purple patch or hit rock bottom anytime. But things that can be kept in mind.

  • Stop carrying 3 spinners in england, rather take 6 fast bowlers.
  • Carry someone like vijay shankar who is a solid bat and his dibbly dobblies can be lethal on a soggy day.
  • End this nonsense of taking umesh yadav on home series numbers
  • Take someone like deepak chahar- swings the ball, puts it in right area and can bat as well. Ill honestly take him over saini, siraj in england.

  • Siraj definitely now , chahar still wud a great option another guy who adds batting depth

  • Look at ankit rajpoot who bowls a great outswing.
  • Make sure to take Shubhman gill as he plays a lil late which is always good in england
  • Rohit sharma can be the card who can flip any side- He is another guy who plays late and i havent seen him in that much trouble against anderson also archer and wood are kind of bowler he wud enjoy . But but but duke balls , english weather and woakes, broad, curran can be his nemsis .

Points remains same

  • Take Thakur for sure - very good outswing plus adds batting depth
  • 3rd opener is a concern
  • Start prep KS bharat

to beat england in england batting depth wud the key as ball moves a lot and can get even a set batsman out anytime, unlike Australian wkts which are true for batting

Playing the ball late and right under the eyes is absolutely crucial in most SENA countries. Our batsmen are always looking to come forward and that won't work considering the swing and seam on offer in England. Unless its pitched up , nothing should be played with weight going forward. Unfortunately,  shastri , kohli are both dumb and stubborn when it comes to this. So expect batting failures as usual .

Bowling plans have to be spot on as well. Are we playing a couple of practice games at least? Also we need our best XI fit for the first test. Cant afford to have injuries in IPL etc. Winning the first test is absolutely  crucial over there.

Should go with 5 bowlers, the concept of playing 7 batsmen with 4 bowlers in overseas tests is outdated. There is a ? mark regarding the fitness of some of the bowlers.

Following line up should work:

R Sharma

C Pujara

S Gill

V Kohli

A Rahane

R Pant

R Jadeja/H Pandya

R Ashwin

B Kumar/I Sharma

M Shami

J Bumrah

BK shudnt be even a question in england, it shud be Shami vs Ishant
