MS Dhoni announces retirement from international cricket on his Instagram account.

MSD will never be replaced :((What a clutch player especially at chasing and changed the mood in the Indian camp about chasing. Before that we used to struggle before and panic when the going got tougher. He may not be as pretty in his strokeplay like other superstars but he had his own method and always stuck to his method which is to stay until the end. I can't recall how many matches he was there till the end to finish it off because they were too many.

Was excellent behind the wickets especially to spinners. His style of keeping his hands close to the stumps and not have the back and forth movement of hands made quick stumpings possible. He also managed to captain his side well from behind the stumps and got his field placings dead right in ODIs. And most importantly, he won championships after a long drought. 2007, 2011 and 2013 will always stay fresh in my mind.

Was also able to manage difficult personalities in the team who were his age and above (actually the seniors were the nicest to him) and some of them didn't appreciate his captaincy but he still played them on merit. Truly a cool captain on that front and on many others. Thanks for the memories thala. I wish you good luck for your post retirement endeavors and keep rocking the IPL :csk:for another few years. Thala doesnt care for farewell matches thats not his style. He wanted to retire quietly without any fanfare :nice: But I have my own farewell for your cricketing career

If it makes you feel any better, he was a match winning captain, usually stayed until the end of the innings to win the match, and played a clutch innings in the final of a world cup unlike some other guy who is more talented but found his legs shaking when it mattered the most in world cups. With 1 wicket in hand and 15-20 runs to get in the last over and who will you want - If the answer is not thala, people need to get their brain checked.

Nayan mongia, MSK prasad, Saba karim ,Vijay dahiya, Sameer dighe, Deepdas gupta, Ajay ratra, Naman ojha, Parthiv patel, Dk ,Saha and many more  our echelon of mediocre wicketkeeprs   MSD was  a breath of fresh air.  We may never get a player like his calibre.

Saha wasn't mediocre.

Mongia was decent.

Saha was one of the best pure wicetkeepers and 10 times the keeper dhoni was  particularly against pacers

GOAT Indian captain, and it's not even close. He is also arguably the GOAT cricket captain period.

2007 T20 WC

2011 WC

Capatin of the #1 Test Team

He helped turn India into a machine in ICC tournaments: it became the expectation that we reach the SF and anything less than a cup became a disappointment.

He also selected most of the players who are playing as part of our most recent #1 Test team under Kohli.

It's a shame certain people blinded by nostalgia don't appreciate him.
