Lil Early to Say but this England side are showing Flashes of the Dominant Australian side

Recommended Posts

I know its early to say and they are playing at home but there are some parallels i have noticed

  1. Every batsman will come n attack- In that aussie side every batsman use to come n start attacking not letting opposition have advantage . Even the batsman who cudnt attack like others rotated strike to great extent , the key was the scoreboard shud never stop ticking. This england side is going on same route , every batsman comes n starts playing attacking cricket.
  2. Taking 4-5 wkts within 100 runs of opposition- Aussies use to the plan of taking 4-5 wkts till 100 runs to perfection most days which never let the opposition put a big total on board, now england is doing same. They dont have mcgrath or warne but then again Australian also missed their services a lot due to injury n ban but their plan use to be always same....key was bowling attack working as unit which england is also doing. Archer and woods pace has given them a completely diff dimension , they constantly provide them breakthrough and let someone like Rashid make it worse as he also keeps chipping away with wkts. Everyone attacks with the bat and everyone takes wkts with the ball
  3. Many Runaway Match winners
Aussie had - gilly, hayden, hussey, ponting, symo, warne, mcgrath lee
Eng has- Roy, bairstrow, butler, stokes, morgan, archer
Other may be a lil less but not far away , and with these many match winners a team can win from nowere
  4. Bench strength- Even when aussies use to miss their key player the bench strength use to step up and be as good as the ones missing, england bench strength is pushing main player for a position now.

Since most players have few years left in front of them this team is set to dominate for a decade atleast

Both teams have one common trait playing attacking cricket

That aus   batting &  bowling was best in world. This English bowling is good not best. Aus , india & nz bowling > eng bowling

thats why i said flashes....i knw they dont have mcgrath , warne or ponting kind of player

man to man their bowling falls short but they are doing the job as a unit

yes, just flashes, i don't think they will sustain, other teams will figure it out or easily catch up .

To sustain there wud be 3 key factors

  1. Captain- Not sure next captain wud be as good as morgan
  2. Archer n Wood - they both given them X-factor , if they stay fit for long the side will be at top
  3. Leggie - In middle over Rashid is chipping away with bunch of wkts , im not sure if there are any leggies coming up

Rest batting depth, all rounders looks solid for them

Eventually they will be rated as the 3rd greatest ODI team of all time behind 1999-2009 Aus and Lloyd's WI. Their best players still have at least 5 years of cricket left and depth is insane. One of the greatest turnarounds in cricket history, from 2015 WC exit to current state, bloody brilliant!!!!

World #1 for last 24 months, WC win.

Since introduction of official rankings (late 2002) only Aus has spent more time at #1.

Peak rating:

Aus 140

RSA 128

Eng 127

Ind 124

Expect Eng to reach 130s in coming years, 140 may be beyond their reach.

Retrospectively applied, WI has a higher peak rating than Aus :omg:. India lowest among # 1 teams.

People go about their batting but their bowling is quality as well. Woakes is almost always performing. Archer is top class and Wood is improving tremendously. Then they have Adil Rashid who is a proper wicket taker and the all rounders to go with that.

Currently rate them higher than India's attack with failing spinners, an underwhelming Bhuvi and an overworked Shami.

Lol India bowling..  NZ chased 340 odd vs us recently.  WI too managed to tie 320+ chase in a series..  These are our last two bilateral ODI series results.  We still rely on spinners to take wickets.  We barely take 2-3 wickets in PP.  Even in WC SF that's where we lost.  Dropping in form Shami & playing Bhuvi.

What a joke. The team that lost to Pakistan and Sri Lanka in the World Cup and barely scraped through in the Final is being compared to a team that played two full World Cups without losing a game and decimated their opponents in three straight World Cup finals lol.

I used the word flashes didnt say they are like them.
