Tests 11 v ODIs 11

Recommended Posts

Test ATG 11 v LOI ATG 11 without repeating players (retired; post 1960; non-Indian players).

If the two teams play a series involving 3 Tests and 3 ODIs v each other, which team will get more points overall (topic of the thread). Points are listed below:

  • Tests: 1 win = 3 points for the winner; 1 Tie = 1.5 points for each team; 1 Draw = 1 point for each team
  • ODIs: 1 win = 2 points for the winner; 1 Tie/No result = 1 point for each team

Tests 11

B Richards

Greenidge

Sangakkara

Lara

Sobers (c)

S Waugh/Kallis

Gilchrist (wk)

Hadlee

Marshall

Warne

Ambrose

ODIs 11

Jayasuriya

Ponting

V Richards

M Crowe (c)

ABDV (wk)

Bevan/McCullum - if a specialist wk is needed esp. in tests

Klusener

Wasim

Garner

Murali

McGrath

PS the topic is not on posting 11s, but to evaluate the points the teams above would get by playing against each other in a series involving 3 tests and 3 odis, so if the test team wins the test series 2-1 and loses ODI series 1-2, it would have 8 points. While the ODI team would be on 7 points.

True to the context, the tests XI will smash the odi XI in test series.

the test XI will kill odi XI in odis by making slight changes to their batting order. Gilly and Greenidge to open followed by Lara, Sobers, Santa. Explosive line up with troubleshooter in Steve Waugh. The bowling line up is too good and will make sure none of the swashbucklers like abdv, Sanath thrive.

However, odi XI has better x-factor players like klusener and bevan. So they should win the close odi matches.

You could/should make the ODI XI a lot stronger by getting better opener(s) and putting Ponting where he belongs at 3- that way they have a real shot at winning test series.

Going back to the OP, I reckon Test XI wins test series 2-1 and ODI XI wins ODIs by same margin... each teams bowling attacks should get them a win in their "other" format

Openers in the ODI 11 are supposed to be ideal for that format .... In an AT11, it can be difficult to be slotted at your regular national level positions. Ponting who bats at 3 can move up to opening w/o having to do major adjustments. In fact, considering how competitive an Aus AT Test 11 can be (esp. with likes of Bradman, S Smith, G Chappell, Border, S Waugh, ....), Ponting may need to open in tests too for that team

PS Having said that - ODI 11 has McCullum, who would come in as the specialist WK esp. in tests in place of Bevan (avg of less than 30 in tests), so that team has the flexibility to open with him as well.
