Is Modi obsession with 3rd term to match Nehru, hurting India?

Is election winning strategy and preparation being given more priority than governance by PM Modi and team?

WHat is the connection, Bhau? Totally, oth. Do you think a stable Govt doesn’t help the country?  Instead of focusing on Modi’s obsession over elections, we should focus on how to build an opposition that can defeat BJP. He even suggested that let’s have a common election cycle for center and state like US

Primary Objective: Good governance, devlopment for the country

One of the factor helping in achieving objective - Stable government enjoying majority

Question in that the thread is that has primary objective taken backseat for Modi and the factor i.e. majority government and full term become primary objective?

What it seems like?

Primary Objective: Winning elections, having majority, having more government by any means

By Product - Good governance, devlopment for the country, if it doesn't happen, then still keep focusing on primary objective of forming govt.

How is that story related?

In the story, when cat started disturbing monk, his disciples tied cat. Purpose was to avoid disturbance. Action was tying the cat. When cat died, purpose was no longer hampered, but action became primary for them and they brought another cat and tied that cat.

Now winning elections and forming government is important to achieve the larger goal of development of country. But my question is that has forming govt and winning election itself become larger goal and development objective is no longer a priority anymore. Not saying that it is not  done, but is it still primary objective of Modi?

No PM other than Nehru has been elected for 3 consecutive terms. Is Modi more focussed on matching Nehru to win for the 3rd time?

Where are the priorities of this govt? Can this government do better if at times they give bit more priority on governance and focus there more?

In other words - is this govt underachieving in terms of governance in quest of overachieving in area of election results and house strength?

What do you want for BJP to not focus on elections? It will be a death of their political life. In democracy, if people are not happy, they will vote out the sitting Govt . Anti-incumbency kicks in for anybody. So, if Modi doesn’t live up to his promise or if people don’t get anything in return , they will vote him out.

You don’t know why BJP came back strong in 2019. They were not popular as nothing on populist agenda was achieved, but still they got more seats than before. After 2019, they have focused on popular agenda like CAA, A370, Triple talaq, asking questions on NRC, China handling  and NEP. RJB was a judicial win. Now it seems like they worked only on popular agenda to win elections. If people are still unhappy , BJP gets to sit out.

Being a long time BJP voter, definitely I want them to focus on elections.

I am not questioning that that they are focusing on election. My question is if they are focusing more on elections and less on governance. Between governance and elections, has winning election become way too bigger goal than actual governance.

And about their work on populist agenda, there is one common aspect in all those. Most of their achievements which are being highlighted on ICF are more of policies. Somehow it seems that there isn't much on the implementation side. If there were many, I am sure at least those would have been constantly mentioned at least on ICF - that's going to be my next thread.

OP doesn't make sense. Irrespective of corruption or social issues, the root of our underdevelopment is lack of vision. Most governments only think of 5 years, yet this current government isn't that. The high amounts of roads projects, dedicated freight corridors, power infrastructure. Then, long pending issues like Ram Mandir, Article 370 have been resolved. This showcases the long term aspiration of the government towards India, not an election mode.

BJP is constantly in election mode, no matter what.

Irrespective of situation, focus is on grabbing power only which itself isn't bad. But other issues are being overlooked or ignored.

Nehru served for 3 consecutive terms and remains only PM to do so.
