Tbh the themes this movie explores like vigilante justice, extra judicial killings, these things will piss off left wing types.

To be fair to Kollywood folks, Sun controls the media space in Tamil Nadu. And Red Giant Movies is the largest production and distribution company in Tamil industry, almost a monopoly, headed by CM Stalin's son. They even bully Hollywood, Bollywood makers to get a larger cut. I can understand if Tamil celebs don't speak out against the DMK family (especially now when there is no opposition post Amma's death). Even Kamal Haasan had to ally with these DMK people and speak their language, when he started out as anti DMK/AIADMK option. Sethupathi is small fish relatively, power dynamics not in his favor that he can give anti DMK statements even if he wanted to....maybe superstar Rajini can but even he avoids direct confrontation.

I don't agree with Kashyap's politics but he has given chance to so many outsiders, brought new talent in all departments of film making, after RGV it was Kashyap who backed non-nepo talent in Bollywood and stood against the filmy/dynasty mafia and bigwigs.....for that he will always have my respect.

Anurag Kashyap has zero hits as as director in his career.  The closest hit film to his name is Gangs of Wasseypur.

Don't care. His influence is way beyond BO. Without him, Motwane, Shoojit, Sriram Raghavan etc. Bollywood is a big fat zero.

You have to give credit to RGV for nurturing all the talents you mention

Watched Maharaja in one sitting. Hard to stop once it gets taut. Awesome editing and acting. Kinda guessed the twist , but the whole movie has a Korean movie vibe, like Old Boy, Parasite , brutal. Will stop watching Bollywood movies here on.

Watch Kill , not for soft hearted though. Baap of animal in terms of raw violence.

Watched the promos during WC. Pretty slick action like John Wick types. Waiting to come on OTT.

I was hearing a lot about this movie, tried to skip it because there was another movie called Maharaj which was the usual left wing trash. Since this had Setupathi, Anurag Kashyap and the look and feel made me think this will also be same left wing/DMK type trash.

You skipped a movie because it sounded like another movie which you thought was political, even when you knew it was a completely seperate movie? That's the dumbest shiet I have ever read in my life

This is what happens when only politics and right wing bhakti pollutes ones mind. This is close to mental illness and whats happening to a lot of Indian youths.

What a way to live life, everything is about a blind belief in a political bhakti with no original thoughts or brain use. Just being in a blind cult. Even something as small as entertainment or watching a movie watching and to get political approval.

Sheer mental illness which affects the quality of life one lives.

Should support small stars like these and unique concepts. It also looks and feels much better ina movie hall than on TV.

Saw 3 good movies recently and would recommend

1) Kill - some of the most brutal action and violence put on screen for any movie, let alone Indian movies. People have compared with raid but there is not as much hand to hand combat but more focus on innovation and brutality. Nice mindless fun and would definitely recommend. We should encourage movies which try something new

2) Maharaja - I think people have already spoken a lot about this movie. No spoilers but what plot building, editing and acting in this thriller with a twist. Not one scene wasted. Highly recommended.

3) Aavesham - what a perfect blend of comedy and feel good emotions. And what acting from FaFa. The perfect masala movie for entertainment and laughs. And the songs are great too.

you throw your toys out of your pram about movies like Kerala Story etc but you have an issue if I skipped a movie that hurts my community sentiments? I saw the synopsis of the other movie “Maharaj”- the Hindi movie (it stars Amir Khans son apparently) and it sounded a lot like other movies that in the past have done the same and I decided to skip it because I knew what was coming

Now this movie “Maharaja” had a lot of repeat offenders and sounded just like the other film on title. I don’t have to be political about it.

if it makes you happy I haven’t seen the Savarkar movie or Atal biopic :nice:

Maidaan : Pretty good sports drama, seemed like it took bits from Chak De India. Anyway nice screenplay. The soccer scenes are well done. And loved little tribute towards the end.

Sad our football has gone down so much :((

Chak De itself took bits from 'Miracle'.

Twice booked tickets for Aavesham with family and friends, both times had to back out last minute because of work. Planning to watch it soon, heard great reviews.
