Why is Sanju Samson so highly rated?

If for me.. i would certainly add him in indian LOI team at no 4. ...

Only limiting factor being his own mental game which he needs to work on... Has all the shots in his arsenal.. can dominate pace nd spin equally good.... Can switch gears in a ziffy... Batsmen of this capabilities are match winners on their day..

Nd i guess ODI will provide him the perfect stage to showcase his talent... Where at no 4 he can work on building his game like kohli by milking singles nd doubles... Nd then when time requires he can launch at will...  He is a proper batsman not a basher...

If he finds a balance between his ability to hit sixes nd working on ones nd two (thus constructing an inning)... He would prove match winner for india...

Somehow im not sold on Iyer at no 4... He doesn't evoke much confidence against pace... Yes he can murder spinners (not unique to other indian batsmen).. but he doesn't has ability to hit a 145kmph+ express bowler..

Samson is 25 currently, Rahul's ascent in international cricket began at 25 only. But yeah Rahul amassed a mountain of runs in domestic cricket. For Samson an exception has to made & all efforts should be made to make a match winner out of him. Just need a selector & captain with a vision. He has to be given an extended run before being discarded.

India's top 4 currently in T20s are mirror images of each other.

Gone are the days when our players debuted in their early 20s. They were a finished product when they came on to the international scene. Dravid, Ganguly, Laxman, Srinath, Sehwag, Zaheer, Dhoni, Kohli, Rohit and Raina to name a few. Sachin, Kumble, Harbhajan and Yuvraj debuted in their teens . Samson and Rahul are late not only due to their failings but the captain and TM focus on immediate success and lack of patience from Kohli

He gives the much needed hitting strength to Indian T20 team so we should persist with him.

Also, Iyer is comfortably better than Pandey in terms of hitting. Those 10 crucial pressure runs should be enough to move on from Pandey now and replace him with SKY in next tour.

The competition for Pant's substitute is getting interesting - Samson vs Kishan vs Rahul vs Dk(wildcard entry)

Samson doesn't keep wickets outside of the IPL - both him and Rahul are batsman who can keep.  Not specialist keepers.  And Ishan is flirting with that as well.

Kishan should have the inside track.  He got his chance and proved himself against England.  DK can be his coach.  Rahul can compete for a batting slot.  As for Samson, he has shot his wad for the year.  Next big knock coming in 365 days.

What's this about Samson needs a chance. Isn't Samson already in T20i team or am I missing something.

As per stats he has already played in 7 matches and scored 83 runs at strike rate 118.57  in T20i.

Got bumped off for Eng matches.  Rightfully.  One delightful innings yesterday and we are all titillated again.

Not dismissing him entirely - guy is amazingly talented - but definitely not falling over myself to include him in the XI again.
