Vikrant Gupta on Sports Tak

Recommended Posts

Vikrant gets lot of flak...  Maybe he doesn't expose Chokli that much coz of fear of backlash.  That Taklu once did that..  And Chokli's PR unloaded on him.

I feel he hates Kolli a lot & probably knows he is useless..  A day or two ago he stopped at saying that Kohli has no match to Root's backfoot game but stopped for some reason.

Boria bistar is the worst.

You can study the game, analyze it and then provide advice. Need not be one with 100 tests under the belt.

People putting down opinions of non cricketers with words like "whats your aukaat?" is plain stupid.

Agree with your sentiments, but for a non-cricketer to make an episode on technical masterclass should atleast be someone who is certified as a coach.

A real student of the game will get their coaching license surely, otherwise it is difficult to take it seriously.

Saw parts of his latest episode. Vikrant said they use same ball in tennis unlike cricket where you have different ones like SG, Dukes. Then whined about standardization, how we should have only one type of ball etc.

Total nonsense, blabbering **** without knowing anything. You don't have same balls every tournament in tennis, in fact even in one tournament they change ball after every few editions. Last year French Open went from Babolat to Wilson, a heavier ball making it tougher to hit through the court. Rebound, forward/backward deformation, colour, furriness all keep changing with different company balls.

Even minor changes can have a big impact on style of play. 2011 RG balls were so light and fast that Federer played his closest French Open match (that too final) against Nadal that year, despite gap on clay between them being much lesser in 2005-07...had Fed not peaked against Nole in the SF the Serbian would have ended Nadal's Court Phillipe Chatrier aura 10 years before he finally did. In fact Fed could have won that FO had he not been such a mental midget. All this because that year French Open was playing even faster than today's Madrid Open, almost like slow HC (cos of the bounce more like Indian Wells).

Same with Australian Open where they switched to Dunlop balls a couple of years back which has lesser spin. Forget raw numbers, observe the kick Nadal gets from his forehand since ball change in AO, compare it to other HC events the same year or AO from few years back.

Waise har tournament analyze karoge toh you'll see how different even sub-categories of clay/grass/hard surfaces are. Then there is racket tech, string tension....compared to tennis, even cricket is standardized.

Standard of sports journalism in India , and these bozos have 5.5 million subscribers, get paid as well.

I can overlook  Vikrant for his pseudo cricket coaching gyaan. he has a show that has 2-3 million followers/ subscribers, so good for him if he feels like a cricket guru.

However the bigger problem is he is the perfect poster boy  for the half-brained, biased influential journalist that we see in every corner of the media today be it politics, entertainment, crime or sports journalism.

There is 0 research in any of his shows, he doesn’t have any idea of numbers, reference points, doesn’t really impress with his cricket acumen. I mean he is a sports editor of a prominent news channel  but he speaks about cricket like your local panwaala or the taxi driver who gives his thoughts on yesterday’s IPl match . His constant plugging of his social media and other business ventures is irritating.

I find him very biased especially when it comes to Punjab or Delhi players. Personally he can be biased to whomever but it reflects in his journalism and his shows.

Credit to him though that he is one of the pioneers of these cricket YouTube shows we see these days. Just checked 5.5 M sucbscribers  credit where due even though it’s a worrying sign for the cricket acumen for our cricket mad country.
