Abhishek Sharma 73* (46) vs J&K..  Turning out to be a promising SMAT for youngster.  Back to back match winning performance.

Fitness,  ability & natural stroke making wise..  He might have greater potential than Paddikal + bowls good left arm spin.  Hopefully SRH gives him a Top 3 position.  Preferably as an opener.  Really exciting prospect.

No space in top 3. Warner Williamson Bairstow Manish Pandey. Maybe 4..

Little tweaks in his action could have made him an India material which he isn't yet.

He is still young:). He was a net bowler in Australia and had to come back due to injury. Insiders say  B Arun has taken a liking to him and although he didnt play a single ipl match he was taken to aus as a net bowler..he is being groomed to be the successor to Ishant Sharma. He has the height and bounce and has a similar name:). Btw his father  Subrata Porel was a former Ranji player and international umpire.. so good guides he already has..

Wow. That Subroto Porel was such a workhorse for east Zone for so many years .

I like this guy . Moves both ways , Has height and gets bounce .Good at changing pace and drawing false  shot . Only issue is pace .

May be he will be fast meduim bowler at 132-138 range and we may have to accept that .

Do you have any information about why Prasidh is being ignored for this role ?

One such tall, bouncy, accurate bowler maybe good for the balance of the team. Like McGrath or Hazlewood.

But all the new pacers debuting after the fast men  ( Bumrah, Shami and Umesh  ) have been bowling 130 k to 140 k.

Can't fill the team with medium-fast bowlers.

Technically, it was Prabhsimran who scored 73*(46) :P He's been in hot form in this SMAT.  Looked out of sorts and overwhelmed a couple of seasons ago in IPL and last IPL was a bit unlucky with limited opportunities.

Back to Abhishek, he made a good knock again 59*(42) and accelerated towards the end.  Pity we haven't been able to see either in action on TV so far.  Punjab has made it to the next stage with 4 wins. Hopefully, there's some air time.  Both the openers have hogged the batting so far and the middle order is undercooked.

Regarding Paddikal, I would say at this stage he's probably ahead being a all format player.  Abhishek definitely has potential and is now getting more chances, he needs to kick on in Ranji.

Followed cricbuzz scorecard & it said Abhishek made 76 & Cricinfo showing reverse lol..

BCCI needs to make this tournament more marketable.  I'd have loved a YouTube live streaming of those matches which are not Televised or streamed.

There is good potential overall in SMAT.

Prabhsimran also played the same U19 WC & Shaw Gill & Abhishek if I am not wrong.  Solid hitter but needs a breakthrough knock in IPl..  Hopefully his wicket keeping stays good as well.

Paddikal is best young left handed batsman in the country & probably Dhawan's replacement.  Abhishek overall has better ball striking & handy left arm spin bowling which is gold standard requirement of Indian team.  If he keeps up the good work he may find himself in Indian team soon.  Next IPl crucial for both.
