IPL destroyed our chances

No one is saying that IPL has not had any tangible benefits to Indian cricket.

but the selection process is a joke currently. Ipl players are selected on their performances for ODI squads and if any of them does good they get drafted for the test team. That is NOT  how selection processes should work!!

T20I squads should be selected based on IPL performance

ODi squads needs to be selected based on domestic 50 over competitions

Test team needs to be selected based on Ranji performances.

The issue is that due to the insanely packed calendars there is literally no time for Indian test players to play first class cricket at all.. no wonder we are undercooked in SENA tours in addition to them happening right after a long IPL. The results are there to see for everyone.

Count they time they field for about 1.5-2 hours. Plus the nets, practice matches etc. It is not a walk in the park.

They can cut down their work, esp when they are battling injuries.

Its part of the job. ranji and test matches also involves practice and fielding in the game. So mnay players are dropping like flies this season and not previous seasons. what is the main reason. its lack of matches. its like starting a car in winter time. without idling, you cannot drive. this saeson was like a long winter. again i would pay more attention to an actual cricketer like mcgrath than a random ICFer

many of you who have short attention spans might not agree but having the IPL before a major tour killed our team.2 months playing in incredible sauna like conditions are directly responsible for the complete destruction of our team.In the greed and money won out over overseas success.

Cummins, Warner, Smith also played england series before ipl and then ipl and now test series. Even Hazlewood was with csk for the whole season.

So far only player who might have injured due to workload issue is bumrah. Ashwin always had these injury issues at the end of a long series.. jadeja, pant, shami etc are injured while batting in test series. KL and Mayank were injured in nets (!!) Vihari didn't even play ipl

Ishant and Bhuvi injured after playing like 2-3 ipl games.. which means they wouldn't have lasted in tests anyway

In a way glad Bhuvi and Ishant injuries were identified in IPL itself. Had they played, Top 4 out of top 5 fast bowlers in the country might have been injured during the game.

Bhuvi already has a history like he almost f’ed us vs Pak in WC 2019. Ishant usually when fit is fit. However both Umesh and Shami suffered injuries for different reasons right during the game.

Even Archer who played for england before IPL, Boult who played for NZ afterwards , Nortje played for Sa afterwards

Without IPL, we may never have had Bumrah play test cricket.  He could have been toiling away in Ranji, his best years wasted instead of being polished alongside Malinga.

It works both ways.

I am not against players playing IPL but indian first team players should not be playing IPL before an important tour or series,we have seen other countries withdraw or not allow their players from IPL because of upcoming series.why are we handicapping ourselves with increased workload for our players who play against teams who are rested ?

Yeah, they should give up on million dollar paydays so that you feel that their priorities are in order.

Btw, Mohammed Shami held back from playing in the IPL for ODI WC 2015, and BCCI compensated him for it.

So when its necessary, its done.  So I would just temper the knee-jerk 'hot takes' and assumptions a bit, and find out the facts of the matter before waxing all accusatory.

Why are people against players earning money. Why should players not be allowed to earn their money. IPL is not destroying anything. It is giving players more financial power. Now they can make cricket actual careers even if they don't make it to Indian teams.

Players like Pujara who are not playing IPL, it gives extra motivation to play well in the formats they are being picked. It is win win situation for everyone.

Siraj showed how much it means for a player to play for Indian team. People have such unrealistic expectations.

I dont think the Franchises who have paid millions in star player salaries ( esp test team players like Bumrah and Kohli) are least worried about India results- even if BCCI chose to reimburse them for the expense of salaries, they wont because players like this bring eyeballs to the TV, more eyes more broadcasting rights money.

You can say IPL is BCCI's primary aim to make money and its priority, test cricket is an afterthought. If India wins then great, if not then it doesnt matter to them. That is why our overseas test performances have taken a considerable dip since 2011.. 9 years and yet not a marked improvement in overseas tour approach and preparation.

Whatever happens happens for good- Its becoz of IPL we have such good bench strength ...also this team has played like a team coz they were pushed against the wall

Hogwash.

Ipl destroyed Kl Rahul same with Mayank.

Our bench strength consists of Siraj, Saini, Thakur. Only Siraj has performed well and he is a piss poor t20 bowler, so what has ipl got to do with his performances.

On the other hand we could have avoided injuries, Jasprit Bumrah was bowling in high 140s in Ipl what happened to him in tests and i know how tests are 5 days long but still he was bowling in 140s in the last tour.

Kuldeep, ashwin, jadeja have nothing to do with ipl so dunno how ipl is the reason behind our bench strength.

The simple thing is that ipl shouldn't be a two months long affair bcoz its causing harm to our players fitness and technique.

totally agree

When i was a kid....my father was against cricket just because its not financially viable option..

Now...if a kid is good enough to get into a bench of any IPL team....they are settled for life....

Just look at the case of Md. Azureeden of kerala who made a 37 ball century...I am sure...he will be the new millionaire.....

We played 3 ODIs and 3 T20s in bilaterals  this year. Where as some players like Bumrah, Shami played around 16 games over a period of 2 months , 3 months if you include quarantine. BCCI could have cancelled one year of IPL. Ab Bhugto, Saalon.
