There is something very very special about Gill's batting technique and demeanor. If he didn't become a cricketer, he would've made an excellent surgeon. Link to comment

You can see Lyon started bowling wide rather than at the stumps in an attempt to get him caught on the off side. Also setting deep fielders even at the start of the innings. Compare that with Pujara who has fielders surrounding him like flies. Can change the game in a session. He needs to play more like today playing percentage cricket, get a look in before launching an attack and not start swinging just because the spinner is on. Also the cover drives and square drives where majestic not to mention he is a good puller and cutter. If his WK is not upto scratch, he can play as a pure batsmen. Although I think his WK is getting better as it progresses Pujara had like 3-4 close in fielders when Lyon was bowling. Pant there was only one slip lol and that was when we still needed like 160+ runs. Aussies were fearing pant before the chase even started. Real McCoy, express bowling and putrevus 1 2 Link to comment
Norman
Even this performance today couldn’t have happened without Mahi Bhai’s inspiration, guidance and most importantly kind blessings. Apparently whilst waiting to bat today Pant watched re-runs of CSK vs Deccan Chargers when tak Dhoni tak Dhoni damaag se Dhoni was on fire. He used this performance as a blueprint of how not to bat and hence Dhoni’s role in this epic success. Laaloo 1 Link to comment

Would be interesting to see how he goes when other captains start out with aggressive fields. He is not afraid to go over the top even first ball lol. Also when he went out to bat, he was rarely troubled by the seamers with the old ball whereas Pujara was getting hit everywhere. Cummins who was the main threat to India has one weakness. He is not that effective against lefties. Thats the reason why Stokes played that blinder in England. Aussies in their forums think pant is a similar player to stokes. too early to call but certainly the potential is there. as some commies mentioned, if he plays at 5/6 rather than 7 he will grow into that role same with other players like jadeja/ashwin etc Link to comment

And yet our think tank played all RHB at Adelaide Real McCoy 1 Link to comment
