Wriddhiman Saha: "Wicketkeeping is a specialist position and should remain so. I will make the most of every opportunity I get when we face England in Chennai."

Forget Pant, If Kohli goes into usual egoistic mode, he will drop even Gill and Siraj. Remember how he treated Karun Nair, or before that Pant and Kuldeep, or Gill, Siraj and a host of other youngsters, even Pujara and Rahane for that matter. They are all pawns in his bigger game and he will move them the way he wants. It's all about his whims. Grooming players or being treated the same way how his captains and seniors treated him, does not matter at all.

Pant,Gill,Siraj are undroppable. May be Siraj less so if bumrah Shami Ishant all are firing and Ash/Jaddu are available.

Saha's comments are being taken completely out of context here

Asked if it was a setback watching Pant march over him he replied

, the Bengal 'keeper said, "I have been hearing these comparisons since 2018. I believe in doing my job and I am not worried about how Pant is batting. I don't want to change my game because of that. It's up to the team management to decide who will stand behind the stumps," Saha told TOI during a chat.

(then when asked  about his shot in the second innings of the first test)

In the post Adam Gilchirst and MS Dhoni era, which redefined wicketkeepers as allrounders, Saha is one of those few who falls under the category of a specialist 'keeper. "There are situations when a missed chance can change the result of a match. Wicketkeeping is a specialist job especially in Test cricket. I am not claiming to hold on to every catch that comes my way, but this is a specialist position and should remain so," Saha said.

This is what he said about Pant

Pant was criticised after missing a flurry of catches during the series. "Look, now that Pant is keeping I am sure he will work on it and try to get better. The team management is keeping faith in him and I am sure they know what to prioritise - his batting or keeping," Saha added.

The clickbait heading tried to combine all to create a sensational headline. Saha is a very very humble guy

authors name is Kathakali 'banner'ji no wonder.

Pant a better batsman and you a better keeper - what is your take?

It is the truth and you can’t deny it. Right from childhood, I have treated myself as a keeper first and then a batsman. Can’t really say what is Rishabh’s opinion on this. But when he takes his stance in the middle and bats the way he does, it exerts a different level of confidence. He gets success playing that way. Now once again, it boils down to the team management whether they want to play an extra batsman or a specialist keeper.

Do you and Pant ever discuss this?

Not that much to be honest. I have no issues regarding that and I’m sure Pant doesn’t too. I obviously want him to do well when he’s playing and vice-versa. At the end of the day, both of us want India to win.

Speaking on the immediate change, Saha has revealed the reason behind his dropping and said that he was dropped for not scoring runs. "I was unable to score runs that's why Pant got the chance. It's as simple as that. I always focused on improving my skills...It's the same approach now," he said after landing in India.

"You can ask him (Pant), we have a friendly relationship and help each other whoever gets into the XI. Personally, there's no conflict with him," Saha said after returning home following the historic Test series win in Australia.

"I dont' see who is No.1 or 2... Team will give a chance to those who do better. I will continue to do my job. Selection is not in my hands, it's up to the management.

"No one learns algebra in class I. You always go step by step. He (Pant) is giving his best and will definitely improve. He has matured and proved himself. In the long run, it augurs well for the Indian team. "The way he has shown his intent after being sidelined from his favourite T20 and ODI formats was really exceptional," he added.

Perfectly reasonable comments. Although I sense many might feel anxious reading this, or get triggered.

BS.

He is indirectly saying that Pant's keeping is weak in order to protect his place.

Also the fact that he can't hold a bat but instead of working on it he is making excuses.

On another note.. wonder why dropped catches in slips is not taken that seriously as WK.. that too when it happens mostly in overseas.. nobody talks about it.. its as if its okay to drop a few but when a WK drops it his life becomes hell.

A guy with 3 test 100s including one outside Asia (which Dhoni never managed in any format) can't hold a bat, so say ICF experts, I mean the comedy gold this place throws up from time to time :phehe:

What can you expect from fans :) based on clickbait headlines they are ready to berate one of the best international keepers in recent history and more importantly one of their own. Saha is not a celebrity player, but one thing that nobody can question about him is his attitude. He is very humble and whatever he has accomplished is based on sheer hard-work. He actually resembles most of us who can't be identified in a crowd , just the difference is inspite of all the flaws he has extraordinary will and perseverance to reach where he is today. It's easy to abuse him because there is a guy with better potential than him today but imagine what we as an individual will feel if being abused just because there is a better guy in office, college or life.

Slow news week. But some of these guys are so bitter. Instead of being happy with recent series win they want to whine and do outrage orgy. Pity them.

No he is not. Saha will never do that, he is a gem of a person and never shown any pettiness

Well if a batsman's last 15 innings  read 4, 9, 17*, 12, 24, 21, 8, 0, 9*, 1*, 5, 29, 16,  67, 16..227 runs@19 (despite just 4 of those innings outside Asia), questioning his batting ability is quite natural. No wonder he has called himself a specialist keeper now. That's a fair assessment.

Saha ki peeda sahi na jaye @Gollum

On a serious note, I don't think people here are genuinely going after Saha, they are anticipating something most obvious about Kohli which is benching Pant

He will undo whatever little good was done once he left Australian shores

No one is against Saha ,he is good person i admit but what if Pant says "WicketKeeping is not always about only keeping ,you need ARs behind stumps, sometimes you need to score as well, which all WKs around the world do"

What would you say?

India will play 5 bowlers. So Pant will be playing.  That too after literally won the series with 2 stellar knocks it is hard to imagine him being dropped. Gilchrist retired at 37. He started dropping more catches. It is bound to happen. Mark boucher retired at 36.  McCullum retired at 35. Dhoni retired at 33*.    Saha will be 37 come october. Even closer to 40. You really think his reflexes will hold up?
