I wouldnt have Kohli or Rahane in my current team, which means the Indian XI will be carrying several passengers for Lords.

 

For India to beat NZ, it will need a century from Hitman/Pant, I cant see anyone else delivering a century.

 

You cant win games like this.

 

Our bowling is ok, if they are injury free and get some form and fitness under their belt.

Rahane in SENA will be OK. Gill could be OK too.

Ideally I would prefer Pujara to open and Gill at 3. If at any point blocking and wearing out is needed its right at the top. Puajra and Rohit being senior members have to open allowing a free flowing Gill at the vital one down spot where you can either defend or counterattack if an early wicket falls. Rahane has earned his overseas specialist spot for this final and eng series atleast. If he or Pujara fails, I would put Sundar in at 5 either omitting one of Pujara or Rahane. I would also put Siraj over Ishant who is only on the team because of being Kohli's BFF. But I know realistically these things won't happen and the XI I posted before is most likely the one which will play

I will not pick shami in the team ,he is not made for English conditions at all.

3 fast bowlers will be Ishant ,Bumrah and Siraj (for his lethaloutswinger with the new ball) .

Gill might be a sitting duck in English conditions ,you can see that by his lack of foot movement ,but one thing he might be good at is late adjustment to swing and ability to attack.

Rohit is just a NOTA pick because other option will be shaw and Agarwal .

Tbh our batting order is very weak and there are no visible good backups .

Siraj: Pace + bringing the ball into right hand batsman like Ishant.

 

Bumrah: X factor bowler who can swing the duke ball like he did in his 5/7 spell.

Bumrah has looked quite off-colour to me in the last several tests I've see him - I think we might already be starting to see the first seeds of decline. Ishant has also not looked convincing this series. I'd go with Siraj and Ishant/Bumrah. would rather have someone else be our 3rd pacer. perhaps thakur if we need lower order batting.

not sure if rahul will fare better, but I agree that gill's footwork against andie (anderson) was very poor
