'Disappointed with tailenders, they couldn't stay for even a brief while' - Washington Sundar's father

If Sundar didnt had those two duck innings, he would have come before Ash. However, nothing wrong with media men getting some story out

True.  They're just doing their job.

But, by publicly badmouthing his son's team-mates, Mr. Sundar is creating unnecessarily awkward situations in the team.  Unless of course, Washington is mature enough to know this is how his dad is and tells Siraj and Ishant to "don't mind."

In the NBA, there is a kid named Lonzo Ball whose motormouth dad LaVar Ball keeps bad-mouthing the franchise, coaches, team-mates etc., saying his son is not getting the ball enough, that he is better than all the others on his team etc. etc.

Lonzo himself (like Washington) is a consummate team player - maturely and quietly going about his job.  The LA Lakers who drafted Lonzo traded him to another team after his dad claimed that his son was better than LeBron James.  Now, if Lonzo was really that good, they would've put up with the nonsense, but when you are just another above-average role player, teams will not put up with that.

Hope old Mr. Sundar does not make life difficult for his son in the team.

I can understand Mr. Sundar's point of view, but I agree that it could have unintended ripple effects and therefore affect washy.

Problem is only about parents making unnecessary comments in public. Make those comments inside your home ...not with a mike on your face.

Do we need parents talking against each others adult children .

Usne mere bete ka catch gira diya. Isne mere bete ko run out kara diya .

Mera bete ka century nahi banne diya ...

Beta is playing for the national team....not the gali ka team .

I see your point. But these are parents we are talking about. They come from all walks of life and are not always going to be politically savvy. The one thing, almost all of them will have in common is that they have  sacrificed/ endured hardships to give their kids a chance to make an Indian side even though the odds are very small. And, they have a big emotional investment in their kids’ success. So, it would actually be a surprise if they didn’t speak their minds when their kids are involved. Since a lot of players have struggled similarly, they can relate when a parent of another player speaks out. But if this is really such a delicate problem, maybe the media shouldn’t interview them ( that isn’t going to happen- they want the story). So, in reality players probably develop thick skins and let the comments roll.

Some great point, esp the last one.

Almost all parents do their best for the children.

The parents of successful cricketers get paid back far more disproportionately to their efforts. Money, fame ,comfort . The least they can do it not create unnecessary problems for their adult child who is getting them these comforts because he is part of the TEAM.

He should also realise that his son is not superman....he will make mistakes too and he should keep some  face for that too.
