Even if batsmen alongside him playing with ease. I am not talking about yday but in past 2 years or so he never looked comfortable playing pace or spin both in India and abroad. Fully Agree , but still better than vihari in my view.give him full England series. raki05 1 Link to comment
Lone Wolf
Pujara's inability to score off & letting bowlers settle puts extra pressure on other batsman. Things become extremely tough if conditions are bowler friendly as the other guy has to keep the scoreboard moving along & try to survive as well single handedly. The concept of Partnership goes out for a toss. No one wants Pujara to go hammer & tongs but to at least put the ball away if it is there. We know he is a poor runner so strike rotation is already a issue. If he bats like he did Y'day it does more harm than good to the team. It is in batters' hands how much you allow the bowlers to dominate you . One can understand withstanding a great spell of say 5-6 overs from one bowler or batting out a spell from a great /very good bowler. But if you go on blocking every bowler most of the time , it does not make sense. No one talks about the pressure getting built on batsman at the other end and batsmen not getting deliveries to play destroys rhythm of the other batsman. Only way out for pujara is to get singles frequently to be more useful in the team now. Frustrated and raki05 2 Link to comment
New guy
Also on pitches like England and NZ, surviving without scoring is useless as the ball always swings. So situation will never get easier. So you will just block and then get out at same score On pitches like Australia he can dig in and wait for ball to stop doing things and then score more which he has done successfully GoldenSun, Ankit_sharma03, Lord and 2 others 1 4 Link to comment
rtmohanlal
a pathetic average of 33.24 after playing 67 inns in SENA + WI ..... Averages in ENG,NZL,SAF,WI respectively are 28.22, 20.0, 31,61, 20.33 . Only good batting performance has been in AUS thanks to that 1 marquee series in 2019 . Just shows the double standards of the management . Players like Agarwal, Karun do not get enough chances. PLayers like Bhuvaneshwar ,Hardik do not get test spots even after being 'good' till date in their careers. It is there that this proven failure gets chances after chances...
