Building a T20 attack

Like everyone noted, it's not a personnel problem. It's a mindset problem.

The current TM has crippled the team not because there's no talent but because they are too conservative in the format that thrives on sharp strategies. It blows my mind that we turned up for this T20 series with Shardul, Bhuvi, and Chahar as three of the 4 quicks.

What I find doubly strange is that IPL is probably the tournament with sharpest analysis and data driven approach to cricket. But somehow, all this knowhow is not being put to use for the national team.

They are not conservative. And if you think they are idiots, then you are underestimating this TM. They have logic to this madness. Kohli lacks game awareness and tactical finesse but he knows how to protect his position and his bases. The moment Kohli eliminates Dhawan on ground of slow start and inconsistencies, the same questions can then be raised against him and Rohit to an extent. That's were it is safe for him to keep the top three intact as much as possible so that their relative ineffectiveness does not become eye catching by somebody with a completely different style. Then once they get eliminated from one format, and somebody new performs well there is always a chance that he claims stake in other formats as well putting the monopoly on danger. That is the reason why you see any new bat who can be effective in a particular format is undermined by providing scarce chances, variable batting orders and playing in a format which is not his primary strength. That is the same reason why Iyer will continue to play in T20 because it strengthens Kohli's agenda of suppressing upcoming players suited to the format. KL suffered earlier till he put on groundbreaking performances, Pant struggled to get in till recent times . Mayank, Sky, Kishaan may find it even more tough to get into ODI or T20 lineup. And in this endeavour he and some of his senior colleagues are thoroughly aided by our ex cricket fraternity and media managers by continuously glorifying mediocrity and toning down during humiliating defeats. If you are looking for a change in the status quo then something extraordinary needs to happen like a 2007 world cup exit or 36 AO. Infact even then later would not have made any change had Anushka been not pregnant. That's how firm the grip of the "mafia" is.

Funny thing is that Prasidh averages 20 in FCC and 23 in List A with an ER of 5.2. So, he is performing in domestic cricket too.

A 6'3" fast bowler who gets steep bounce at 140 k to 150 k in T20s atleast, has a good bouncer and yorker, can seam and swing the ball too ... is not good enough to be a net bowler in India. Amazing isn't it !!

Swing bowlers are overrated in t20s in Indian cricket corridors

Its height that makes him standout, at 6 ft plus and can bowl 140 plus.

Yesterday, all English batsmen were taller than Bhuvi and Thakur.

I thought Roy was short but was towering over Bhuvi and Thakur.

Really impressed by wood and the eng management, the guy is in his 30s and has terrible stats but has played a critical role in them winning the wc .When the eng bowling was looking flat in the buildup to the wc ,they brought in Archer and the improved wood with the longer runup and increased pace, also helped them to win in Sa and now could be useful in the t20 wc and the ashes.

Why not something can be done to Bumrah's short run up,to sustain his longevity?

One of tyagi or mavi should already have been in the team. Praisdh should have been a certainty in 2nd choice attack,he is already 25 for god sake,in a year or two he will be on the same boat as saini.

And lastly saini,he has been handled just as poorly if not worse as any other young player in last 5 years. His best years lie wasted.

In short ,this tm and especially kohli don't know how to groom and create new players. The players that have done well have been given chances thanks to lack of choice ( last australian tour) not foresight.

We have the ability to field a 2nd string attack with 4 very good 140+ bowlers, but we never would. Shardul is only one i feel should play out of the attack that played last match, and the reason for that is his improved batting + he puts in everything while bowling despite having limited ability ,still tries bowling fast and hostile.

Bumrah can think about this aspect.

Tinkering with run up is pretty common among quick bowlers.

He will have to take a long break for that. Bumrah is an unorthodox natural. Don't think he is going to change anything.

dont think he wants to change and unlike wood he has been successful which adds to the deterrence .Also he hardly has a runup , wood used to sprint in from short run so he just needed to extend it.bumrah might feel a too many changes are req,

Wood seems hip dominant and having a longer runup has helped him there is no surprise,Bumrah too is hip dominant maybe there is some scope
