nevada
People used to say "this guy simply has no luck!" during Sachin's captaincy, due to quite a few so near, yet so far type of results. Azhar, OTOH, was dubbed "destiny's child" for the streak of good luck he enjoyed. He was close to getting dropped from the team when he got a timely century in Palistan after a chat with Zaheer Abbas. Became captain because Cheeka was a player's captain taking up a fight with the board and was conveniently(for Azhar) out of form. Scored a century at his favorite Eden Gardens when he was very, very close to getting sacked as captain after a series loss on SA Sachin was a good man leading a weak side and hard done by due to backstabbers in his own team. Also, people might not remember but his predecessor Azhar was reinstated as captain replacing Sachin for 1-1.5 years. Despite being a superstar, Sachin didn't even get an uninterrupted run as captain. Good on him for chucking captaincy and focusing on his batting. Mariyam, AuxiliA and New guy 3 Link to comment

There were lots of politics around selections during sachins time and he had no say in who got selected. I have a gut feeling selectors were involved in fixing. There are pictures from sports magazines around the time, where in selection meetings, sachin was sitting facing other way with angry expression while everyone else discussed. Sachin had asked for an off spinner for west indies series to attack the left handers and give respite to our pace bowlers. He was refused. Srinath broke down and got injured and then the selectors sent in off spinner Noel David, too late. Sachin was vocal about this. Selectors even decided batting order and told Sachin where to bat. Once Sachin started standing up, he was sacked Azhar was even reprimanded for things like being deliberately run out in matches which india lost and was in terrible form, yet sachin was removed and azhar made captain again One of the justification given by a selector was- azhar is now happily married and can focus on the job at hand. Sachin and ganguly were married then too There were lots of shady stuff going on that time. Sachin didn't use his powers like kohli or Dhoni does, so selectors considered him a push over till he started protesting. There was news of bookies not being able to place bets while Sachin was captain so he needed to be removed. The close losses and collapses during his time were carefully planned, there were many suspicious run outs and slog catches during that time Edited March 23, 2021 by New guy Mariyam and Rasgulla 1 1 Link to comment

Road Safety Cup is about a social message ya. India has one of the highest number of road accident deaths in the world. If Sachin is talking about it, some people may listen. That he won this goes on to show how much this matters to him. A dedicated patriot whose duty to his compatriots extends far beyond the cricket field. The Holy Quran says "He who saves a life, saves all of mankind". From the Ayah al Ma'idah. Sure you can count the U-19 victory. Yeah sure Kohli tonked a few trundlers around and won us the cup and he got a few endorsements along the way. But what greater social relevance does it have? Did it impact anyone's life? Hundreds of years from now, when we all are dust. People will still speak fondly of the time Sachin stood up for a social cause and won us an important tournament. No one will speak about the U-19 WC. Edited March 23, 2021 by Mariyam New guy, Vijy and Rasgulla 1 1 1 Link to comment

Dhoni >>>>>>>> Kohli>Ganguly>>>>>>> Sachin/Azhar/Dravid etc And on the basis of the IPL. Dhoni>Rohit Sharma>>>>>>>>Gambhir>>>DK>>>>>rest>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>dried figs>pebbles>>paper weights>>>Kohli It's a close call between dried figs and pebbles. Dried figs captains marginally better than pebbles. Edited March 24, 2021 by Mariyam Rasgulla and raki05 2 Link to comment
