That’s why I specifically mentioned Kallis.

Fair point and not trying to argue but Kallis used to smash the ball in to the pitch and because he was underestimated at times as the 5th bowler batsmen and he wasn’t the bowler you assess in the air, he used to surprise the batsman when they played  a  basic prod.

I think we are more or less saying the same thing.

A bowler can't be quick of the pitch without being quick in the air. A bowler can't bowl heavy ball unless he hits the deck hard but not everyone who hits the deck hard bowls heavy ball. So a heavy ball is a deceptively quicker ball that bounced more than the usual or other deliveries of that bowler. Focus is on being deceptive.

Even a good length ball, when the pacer has hit the deck hard and the ball zips in with a bit of bounce and hits the splice of the bat really hard, is a heavy ball.

A short of a length ball can be a heavy ball too.

Bowlers can hit splice of the bat bowling good length on bouncy tracks. It isn't heavy ball but hitting the bat higher and harder on less responsive pitches will qualify as heavy ball.

I associate heavy ball with deceptive pace and bounce, anything otherwise is hit the deck bowling.

He always had same problem.  So I am not sure. One IPL season, most bowlers were clocked quicker, so, I have doubts over those numbers when Siraj, Avesh, Mavi, prasidh all clocked 149k.

Heavy ball you are talking about isn't actually heavy ball. There is no such thing like heavy ball. It's just a rhetoric term told when they can't explain why a bowler suddenly surprises batsman. It's all about consistency or rather inconsistency of velocity with extra bounce that deceives the batsman.

Yup I think there is fastest median slowest avg. speed funda behind it probably, some seasons are quicker but most are like current season. 145 seems to be the cap this time

Average pace is overall down in this edition. IPL missing Nortje, Archer and Lockie. Saini, the lone Indian pacer on top 100 entry with 2 150 kmph deliveries is warming benches.

Even Cummins and Rabada didn't go flat out. Could also be due to players being tired. Last year lot of them were well rested and fresh

Yeah, the pitches are not conducive to flat out pace bowling. Only pace with movement has worked

Also the domestic trundlers have really exploited the conditions well and fully maximised their abilities in trying to become death over specialists by bowling variations and yorkers. Cant fault the franchises if they stick with these guys. They are doing well.

138 ... short ball ... OUT

140 ... good yorker

140

141 ... attempted yorker

He doesn't look in very good shape. Seems to have out on a few kilos during his recovery. Hopefully he will get leaner during IPL
