Ankit_sharma03 23,332
dnt think its ego, players know what works for them. Sometimes taking time off is the best thing. IF he was lazy he wudnt wanna face more balls when he is in form. Gavaskar n tendulkar skipped nets a lot in latter part of their career. At times ppl over rate practice, its better to take time off sometimes . Sehwag always said he knew he only needs to face certain number of balls in nets but someone like gambhir needed 10 times more Edited April 5 by Ankit_sharma03 nevada
Lone Wolf 2,019
I am pretty sure after the Adelaide test dude was practicing alright. Maybe over confidence got to him in IPl. I think he did get a reality check sooner which is good.

It is too early for Shaw . Besides how is the coach supposed to work on someone's shortcomings if he won't put in the effort. velu, New guy and sorak
beetle 20,053
What could be the reason for coming out with this in public? Ponting giving a warning early in the season? If true, then I am glad it is out. If he has attitude problems,he will know it is in public now. sorak
ShoonyaSifar 4,412
Never ever good for a coach or a selector to say such things publicly about a young player. How is this going to help Shaw? Unless the idea here to motivate him by asking ng hai m to prove the coach wrong. Again, that could either ways if a player isn't mentally as strong as say someone like Pant. Having said that Punter is one guy who can really help Shaw get back on track and set him up for international success for a decade or more. He was a complete j**k as an individual, but achieved legendary status through sheer grit, determination and disciplined hard work, wasn't the most naturally gifted player. If he could pass on even a bit of those qualities, especially discipline, to Shaw, all the potential will start getting converted into consistent performances. Technical issues creep generally becoz of bad habbits for some it works out with extra practice and for some it works out by taking mind off. Every player has to be treated differently thats what man management is. Problem was if he didnt work had all any time

Players grow and change and find new things. There is no way a 21 year old player can already decide what works for him In the end basics are important. What method are you even talking about when Shaw didn't even take the nets so absolutely no method was even tried beetle

Ull hear every cricketer saying take a bit of time off when form isnt good coz u keep repeating bad habbits in nets making it worse . Working in nets in a middle of a tournament is far different then going away from team and working on basics
zen 11,387
You can feel that there is something wrong about Shaw ... there are many things he needs to work on including fielding ... since Ind has many options, it is his loss if he does not push himself sorak

This is the media sensationalizing the issue. Most probably, Shaw doesn't understand what Ponting is saying. Many a times, during the game when they go to Ponting for a sound byte, I don't understand anything. The language sounds familiar but its all gargle punctuated by the occasional 'mayte'. Mariyam 6,337
Ricky Ponting's biggest talent lies in the gentle art of seeking favours under the guise of conferring them. He talked his way into a coaching contract and made it seem like we needed him. And now he's calling out our youngsters for non issues like being unfit and skipping training. When you are part of a professional set up, you have a hierarchy and rules to follow, you have to follow them. If Ponting as a coach wanted to see his game in the nets and find flaws, he should have obeyed him. So a player can refuse things to his captain, coach, management etc on the pretext that it doesn’t works for him ? Wonder if this is the attitude Shaw has towards Ponting, I wonder how he feels about taking tips from Rathour. beetle
kirkutfan 314
I think that loss of form in the IPL messed up Shaw mentally. And, when he was in that slump, he was in no mood to practice. Think Ponting should have handled that privately and helped give the guy the tools necessary to handle failure, mentally. My guess is Shaw will have learned from this. He has taken the first step with fighting his way back by scoring in domestic tournaments. I really hope he does well this IPL.
