Death overs batting at venues like Chennai

Yes, life is tough for lower order batsmen and more so on pitches where batting gets difficult to bat on as the game progresses ... so how do we make it easier for them (and therefore the team)? What should be the strategy? Where should teams esp. if batting first aim to be at 15-16th over mark? ... It is not too complicated :winky:

I am guessing the answer is to open with pandya

It is an option but talking about MI, I am not sure if they would do that as they have guys like QdK, Kishan, SKY, etc. (and have to accomodate a Rohit too) ... SDP & Pollard are legengady lower middle order players for it. Similarly, Russell and Morgan for KKR, and so on ... Some of the other teams like SRH, RCB, etc. can make the adjustments ... If pitches get worse as more games are played on them, the best way is to leverage more on PP and middle overs (esp. target the 5th-6th bowlers, take those not bowling well for big big overs, etc.) by whoever is batting in those

Obviously Pandya is the answer to most questions raised on this thread but it  will be a disastrous move. Fresh fast bowler with new ball with  whatever swing available is the last place I would put someone like Pandya against.

Having said that, there isn’t anyone else apart from him who can go bang bang from ball 1 either right now at the death.

Total waste of spot opening with Pandya.

Idk man you are just saying the same obvious things. Lower order batsmen will face death over specialists, they will have to go after every ball. Duhh

You seriously don't see the difference in last few overs on other pitches this tournament and chennai pitch?

Kohli, after the game v SRH:

Kohli: Not as exhausted as I'm proud. It was a top game for us and probably it will get more and more tougher here. You saw it in KKR vs MI - you're never really out of the game. Those extra options made the impact performances in the middle overs. I told them if we've struggled to 149, it will be tougher for the opposition. I truly believed we could win with 150. The wicket was never a belter and tonight our execution under pressure was spot-on. The wicket kept getting tougher and tougher with the old ball. It's about getting momentum in the first six overs, but for us Maxi gave us that momentum and got us closer to 150. To be very honest, we're not over-excited with victories. We have a clear plan and backing our players. Got Harshal from Delhi for a role. It's a long tournament and you have to be professional with your job.

Warner was perfect in pacing his innings esp. knowing that as a top order batsman he is batting in relatively easier conditions. Openers of other teams should learn from him!
