KL Rahul worth his weight in GOLD...scored almost 30% of his teams runs

"There is a reason Rahul bats the way he does. You cannot blame him for not trusting his other batters. Rahul understands if he does not drop the anchor, his team could very easily lose the situation. Agarwal, Gayle and Pooran would need to play according to the situation. Rahul cannot be ploughing a lone furrow for the Kings."

He has won orange caps so obviously his "%" is higher. The issue is the SR. David Warner, if he wanted, can score a higher % of his team's runs but he has to balance SR too. Below was posted last time:

Exactly. He is not only the anchor. He has brains. He doesn’t buy into some new wave philosophy of feeling forced to swing away from ball one. He evaluates. He ensures security for his team first and then gets aggressive when appropriate. If Punjab had a more reliable batting line up, he would have been willing to take more chances earlier in his innings. Now, if he can just get more consistent when he plays for India. He either has a string of good scores or he can go thru a horrible period where he has a long string of single digit dismissals.

Not this year. “Slow”Rahul has a SR of 136 versus “fast” Warner’s 110. And Rahul has a lot more runs too.

Bhai team ka pata nahi but for a fantasy team he is definitely worth his weight in gold. He has overtaken Warner in that regard.

Yesterday was a brilliant innings in the end but that was again a mediocre start. Gayle made up for Punjab's slow start. The issue still remains for Indian T20 cricket, all of Kohli, Rahul & Rohit want to do the same thing. I hope Kohli remember's what he said about intent prior to T20 series against England.

So Punjab have used 7 out of their 8 international players . Only one not used is the world number 1 T20 batsman in malan

if Mayank is injured, I would drop poor and bring in Malan and let Gayle open

KL

Gayle
Malan

Hooda

someone

SRk

top heavy but it’s not like Pooran has done anything

if Mayank is back, he opens and Malan moves to 4

KL has got this completely wrong.  Even if Punjabs batting is weak, a better approach would have been to make maximum out of power plays . Punjab needs 7-8 wins to make playoffs and all KL needed to target is 3 match winning innings on his own and 3-4 decent contributions, instead of trying to be consistent

For guys like KL Rahul, Rohit power play overs mean very little. Both can be equally or more destructive outside of powerplay.  But the problem is KL Rahul tries to be steady all the way till 18th over.

The issue is more often than not they will not play through the innings to make up for slow starts ..had KL got out around the 6-7 overs mark, he would have cost Punjab the match ..

He is caught between the devil and deep blue sea. Why blame KL when rest of the team isn't stepping up. He has no choice but to play the way he does due to the weight of captaincy.

Issue with Rahul is he gets stuck like Gill. Rohit and kohli and for example Gambhir always used to look for singles. 3 dot balls and a six gives 6 in 4 balls. 3 singles followed by a 6 gives you 9 off 4. If Gill Rahul can start rotating strike it ll Immediately open up new avenues and increase their strike rate..

No wonder Punjab will be contesting the wooden  spoon again  with this loser mentality.

KL is perfectly capable of playing aggressively, if needs someone reliable late in innings then he should come down at number 4/5 and let Gayle/Simran/Mayank/Malan open.

30% of runs but what % of balls?

I did the math. He has played 29.5% of the balls to score 30.7% of the runs.  His SR is 136 and his team SR is 130.

Without him the team looked like collapsing on multiple occasion. His team would have played less balls and scored less runs if not for Rahul in the first half of IPL.

However, Rahul is out now and lets see what Punjab can do without him.  Mayank, Hooda, SRK have to come to the party.
