apparently he didn’t face a single ball in the nets the entire season but still was able to block 9 balls from Starc/Cummins/Hazelwood and string out an 8 run partnership for the last wicket. Those 8 runs are worth their value in gold even though he got only 1 run out of it given how tight the match was and we could have been easily bowled out and lost the last test had it been any other way.

 

Rest all the batsman including the ATG’s I have seen them play a false shot.

Mushfiqur Rahim of Bangladesh is underrated he is their go-to guy in crunch situations, and his foot movement is among the best in the game. He also has decent defence.

There are many different aspects to technique. Trott and Cook for instance had very functional techniques which brought them a lot of success, but were not aesthetically pleasing. Chanderpaul's would be an even more extreme example.

 

On the opposite end of the spectrum would be someone like Ian Bell, who was aesthetically pleasing but somehow failed to translate that into runs ...

These players had the basic traits to look for a good technique imo.. not too high a backlift, bat coming down straight, superb head position, looking to come forward as much as possible combined with a strong game square off the wicket on both sides.

gavaskar, SRT, ABDV, Kallis, and so on. And there were people who scored loads with "unorthodox" techniques like Smith and Chanderpaul.
