Shubman Gill likely to be ruled out of the first Test against England due to injury, TM wants BCCI to send shaw to England

Recommended Posts

Okay saw the report on Cricbuzz

Apparently it's a serious internal injury (calf/ shin injury/ hamstring damage) which could keep him out for a long time. But then the article also says he will remain with the touring party in England and could come in contention for later tests.

Basically the TM showing no faith in the NCA's rehab programs.

To be honest he has done nothing good since the Australia tour. Even his IPL was crappy.

Its not a bad thing that he sits out.

I wish both Mayank and Rahul get opportunities.

He only plays tests. His IPL form should have ZERO bearing on his test spot.

He's had 4 or 5 failures since Australia, in some of the most difficult batting conditions. Let him settle down in the team.

high chances he cud miss the whole series, apparently he was carrying an injury

Any links or just sources? WTF! How did he hide it? He made sure he was selected for WTC final and now reveals his injury? Doesn't add up. If found true, he should be sent back to domestics to prove match fitness.

First test is a good 35 days away, he can recover from any grievous injury, unless he was carrying broken bone.

This could be some PR news for Pujara, KL, Mayank or mere speculation. I hope Rohit lazyElegance is niggled out rather this tyro.

I like him and don't really want him dropped. But he is out due to injury. cant do much.

It is true that he has not played well since the Aussie tour.. not just the runs, he just has not looked the same. Prithvi shaw was dropped for less.

GILL - 7 low scores after a 50

SHAW - 3 low scores after a 50

Overall Shaw has better Average, Strike rate and already scored a hundred.

I do like them both but just pointing out. Everyone struggled in NZ and Shaw was dropped after one bad game in Australia.  Again not saying Gill should not get more chances. He definitely should get the long rope.

Good point, Need to keep Shaw in circulation, he is a Sehwag type batsman who has the similarities to Bradman, Tendulkar to Gavaskar.

Just being sarcastic about cheerleader here. I truly believe Shaw should be persisted with Mayank, he has 2 double 100s and a century, and a 50 in NZ recently. Seems more prolific than all:

Dropping Shaw from ODIs after that NZ tour was a decision that has flown under the radar. No rhyme, no reason, no allowance to settle in the team as a newbie.

If Gill is ruled out of this tour with injury & Shaw has a bumper IPL in September, Shaw will come back & Gill will be forgotten. That's how things roll.

Shaw was unfairly dropped. But after a 36 all out type of performance, drastic decisions are made and Shaw's glaring technical deficiencies ensured he was not getting a Test match anytime sooner. Plus his past reputation (doping ban, fitness issues, looking like a 30 yr old cricketer with a paunch and all) precedes him and will always keep him on the leash. Wish he could shed some weight, will easily have a 10-12 year long all format career, that's how good he is.

Because he was unfairly treated shouldn't mean Gill be given the same treatment. If things work well, Shaw, Gill, Mayank, Rahul and Pant is our all format potential fab 5 once Rohit, Pujara, Rahane and Kohli are done over the next 2-3 years

Shaw's technique was exposed in IPL last year when inferior bowlers were getting him out in IPL and that was technical deficiency. If your technique is exposed in a T20 league, God knows what will happen in Test cricket in overseas conditions.

Gill has a slight bit of technical flaw but it is not as bad which is why he was given longer run.

If it's really serious he should see a doctor/specialist there & see if there's any surgery or something that might be needed. * the TM, pretty sure they'll thrust him even if he's unfit in later tests & he'll be out for WT20 for longer!

He won't be in Wt20 team even if he is fit. There are 10-15 better t20 batsmen ahead of him.

As per TOI, Hanuma will open and Rahul if played will be in mo..so Pujara might get the axe

Vihari in the team could mean Kohli going back to playing 6 batsmen + Pant + Ashwin + 3 seamers

Better to stick to picking both Ashwin and Jadeja + 3 seamers. Cannot keep changing a long term strategy after every match.

Unless the conditions demand picking only one spinner, only then we should do away with the 5 bowler theory.
