To put it simply, being born in a upper caste comes with a privilege. A privilege that you won't face casteism. For that privilege, reservation is a small price to pay.

It is like buying a subscription to see ad free content. You pay money not to see ads, here your birth gives the privilege and you pay with having to study harder and score more.

That is complete hogwash. Try telling this to the millions of children of upper caste poor who don't get a college admission despite scoring way higher than their contemporaries. Their only crime is their birth

It's very convenient for you to shy away from the real truth.....Bammans ( self-proclaimed Upper caste ) have exploited Dalits to such an extent that they were looked down upon even by other non-bamman castes. Things are now slowly changing for better. Regarding Sikhs...Jat, Kathri, Mahzbi, Naamdharis, Tarkhan etc....None of them are treating each other like untouchables....only the Bammans ( Many of them ) look down upon Shudras like dirt even to this day in many parts of India.

No wonder some of the Bammans of ICF are all up in arms when their Bamman jumla party wrong doings are exposed.

The 'Mantra' is....support no matter what...The friggin upper caste should stay in power.

First you hurled abuses (including casteist slur) without even reading the article. No other ICFer did this at least on this thread.

Then when called out, you didn't backtrack. In fact addressed none of the points, simply went on tangent. Further downplayed sufferings of Dalit Sikhs.

Carry on.

Bammans have lost political and  economic power .  They have become just an another caste in the ocean of humanity called India. Their saving grace is the value they give to education and the sense of  self discipline. Certainly you do not get these by "Oppressing" some one else.

You should not abuse the current generation Bammans for the alleged crimes of their ancestors.

its not just brhamins. it takes two to tango. many sc st themselves when they get educated, look down on others. its not due to "bammans". upper caste is not in power. only certain people from "upper" castes and even "lower" castes are in power. to most people of either castes who are not in power its a tough world out there. politicians are only there to exploit these differences.

I can speak only from personal experience here. I come from a privileged background and maybe I'm tone deaf when it comes to the kind of discrimination some groups face. However, this is what I observed:

Those who were from the reserved category in my college got in on far lesser marks than the rest of us. That played on *their* minds. They mostly made study groups among themselves. And as a result their cliques were limited to others from similar backgrounds. There was next to no interaction between the groups. And a very visible sense of inferiority that those on reservation seats had.

Most were from rural/small town Maharashtra. Yes, many of them have done well now. But if the idea was to *defeat* division of society, this reservation just perpetuates that division. There was a clear aptitude gap between the groups. If you want people to view each other as equals, you reduce that gap.

Let the Govt keep reservations in good pvt schools, perhaps set up coaching institutes for the under privileged classes. That way you will see people genuinely interact across caste/class boundaries.

Obviously if you have never faced casteism, it would sound like complete hogwash. The whole point of being privileged is you don't even realise you have that. You have never been forced to feel low about yourselves by castiest slurs, access denial and subtle mockery.

Why are there no reservations for SC judges? Editors in Major news media? Editors Guild? Corporates Board of Directors? Bank Managers etc? It is a communist agenda to divide and fight for meagre resources at the middle and bottom! Why does the established kin of politicians like Kharge or Paswan need reservations? It is serving no purpose

I actually support reservations in whatever you have mentioned. Yes even top level jobs needs reservation.

This is a liberal deduction of white privilege narrative of the west mapped to India’s UC privilege. They equate racism=casteism. There is only one privileged class in the world, the rich. There is no privilege for poor UC even in Urban  India. They don’t play victim and bend their heads down, work hard and come out of misery. Meanwhile activists, Dalit equalityLabs kind of NGOs funded by nobody- knows-who runs the narrative of UC privilege and play the victim card. Socialism is the sanctuary of the lazy and product of division. Karl Marx was the most racist guy on the planet

If you are naive enough to believe that a poor brahmin is same as a poor Dalit in our society, then no argument can help you understand this. Carry on.

Still you have not explained why reservation is needed. According to you even after getting jobs and education at the cost of other ppl you say they are still badly off. Why do this when it doesn't change what it is supposed to?

So according to you not only should they give ppl education, jobs but also promotions based on caste. What's left?

The change is to build social capital for the oppressed. Give them as many opportunities as possible for them to breakthrough and occupy the top positions in govt and private sector so that discrimination does not occur at any level.

No, that is not what I said. Read it again. It is you who is saying that a poor UC is more entitled than a rich Dalit with a blanket UC privilege.

Yes. A Rich Dalit would face more casteism than a poor UC. Irrespective of the class, UCs do not face caste discrimination.

there is enough hatred for a poor UC by all the Dalit activists, left loonie commies, like some people here too, calling him savarna, manuvaadi, pieces of Shyte, etc. A rich Dalit availing reservations despite being rich, yes that is what is needed for India for the future! Nothing else to say! Be merry in faux liberalism

You just even if they are doing well they feel repressed. So why should they be given reservations? How long will this farce continue?

Hatred and scapegoating helps - even when there is no basis for it.

There are honour killings, rapes, murders that have happened across India because of being Dalit. You are equating it with Social media commentary that UCs face. As I said, if you think the hatred faced by Dalits are same as UCs, then I pity your ignorance.

Dalits don't feel low or repressed when they are repressed. Don't put it on them. It is the society that continues to ook down upon them even if they become rich. And we just can't stop reservation just because a section of people can't stand their progress.
