Pant is a static player with not a lot of feet movement. Only time he moves his feet is when he tries to attack by dancing down. Otherwise weight distribution is poor. He stands and slashes or drives with very little feet movement. So his game is fraught with risks. In every match he scores he takes chances.  In the matches that chances come off he looks great. In other matches they don't come off.  Almost 80% of the time he gets out when he shows intent. He has to strike a balance. Also has to spend time at the crease.

yes he scored 2 overseas tons and other innings just because chances came off.

Showing intent isnt bad. He's not a draw player

Pant does not have what we call is a middle game.He is either launching willy nilly shots or just blocking.I don't think he has technique to play late to cover for the movement on these wickets either.

will learn. Showed patience in Aus before launching.

He's playing inside the line since England. That's something batting coach should help him with

Historically, if one excludes the green mambas that NZ give us, I'd say that SA is one of the hardest places to rack up big scores. And Pant's batting style is not well-suited for these tracks. We will just need to live with the fact that no keeper-batsman can perform equally well everywhere (e.g., Dhoni in Oz and Gilly in Ind): what he does need to do is maintain his performance in Oz/home, improve record in Eng and potentially NZ. I have a feeling that he cannot easily average more than about 25 in SA.

I don't rate Pant based on his average.Pant should be assessed on his impactful knocks. He has improved his keeping a lot.Pant is just fine but people have to temper their expectations .He is a match winner in test matches. He can play a match winning knock on any ground.

Pant IMO needs to work on his weight. Is basically in his mid 20s and spilling out. Regardless of form thats not acceptable in todays world. Losing some flab will quicken/sharpen his responses. I am sure teams all over have analysed his technique.

At this rate is going to become another Jos buttler +, batting average around 35 and a decent keeper. Not bad for a wicket keeper batsman but not world class either.

Are there specific conditions where he is susceptible? We can probably find out from the mode of his dismissals.  Swing bowling is not exactly his forte. When you play swing you have to play as late as possible or play before it swings. If you play in between you have to have quick reflex for last minute adjustment.

he will struggle in SA. there's both lateral movement and spongy bounce. not an easy combo to handle

terrible. Dunno why hes changing what worked. Never used to charge the pacers in Aus and India series.Has to put it away.

he's taking the irfan pathan route. probably listening to too many people and forgetting what worked for him in his first 15-20 tests and also in ranjis. with that said, his batting is not suited for NZ and SA.

its not suited but still can do better.Probably doesnt trust his defense to fight it out.

Batting coach and Dravid has huge role here. Can't afford to lose such a genuine talent.

dravid is just a yes-man, it's become clear. I doubt if he will take any active role in player coaching and development. He will do whatever either captain or BCCI instruct him to do. Selection of trundlers, continued backing of Trimurthi, etc. are all indicative of this pattern

Cricket seems to be the only sport where having a large belly seems to be acceptable.

Pant's lack of physical conditioning is showing in his batting. A sharper body will help his all round game and mental focus.

And in terms of optics being out of form and showing up with a pot belly is not a good look.

Some people on here are delusional. They think what happened in Gabba is a regular occurance. Chasing 300 plus on fifth day against that bowling attack is a rarity.Even there Pant should have been stumped early in that innings.

What was so irritating yesterday about yesterday's dismissal was his reluctance to fight. It looks like he got gun shy after ball before he got out hit him on the gloves. It had nothing to do with his technique.
