Will a morbid Pak raise its sword to beat Ind and NZ in the 2021 T20WC?

On paper, Pak is relatively weak. One would be ok with thinking that Ind would win easily (and more likely result). But when such sentiments are high that is when the chances of an upset increase :hmmm:

Some surprising events in the past:

ODIs

Ind beating WI in the final of ‘83

Aus beating Pak in SF of 87

Pak beating NZ twice in ‘92 WC

In 1996, SL surprised but in hindsight it was a superior team to others and in its purple patch

1999 BD winning against Pak

2003 Kenya reaching SF

2007 Both Ind and Pak out in round 1

2011 No major surprises

2015 No major surprises

2019 NZ in final

T20s

2007 Ind winning the T20 WC

2009 No major surprises

2010 Eng winning its first world title (was considered a choker like SA before)

2012 WI beating SL in SL

2014 SL beating a strong Ind

2016 No major surprises

Why Pakistan beating Kiwis twice in 92 was a surprise? Pakistan always had their number. They were better than Kiwis at the time. Easily top 4 side.

They only trouble us.

We are Pakistan's bogey team in world cups. Weird how it all works.

Buddy, you need to study the tournament and also know that 92 was probably the first time Pak-NZ met in a knockout game. Similarly, Ind and Pak met for the first time in world cups in 92. Even in 1996, Ind beating Pak was a surprise for many (in 2021, it is easy to write stuff like Ind is Pak bogey team).

Pak gave a debut to Inzamam, probably their greatest middle order batsmen in 1992 and his innings contributed to Pak's spectacular run in the tournament... he played a key role in both NZ matches

Answer this question buddy.

Was Pakistan not a better side than n.z in 92?

So no surprises to me they beat n.z.

India beating Pakistan in a crucial encounter back in 96 is a surprise to an extent. If you actually look back at the records, India were a pretty good odi side from 94-96 ish. There was a 2 year period where India did well in odi. So not really a surprise.

Surprise was beating them in 99.

Do your own research esp. what happened in the tournament.

Dont need to do research. Look at the teams. Compare them. Watch the performances prior to the WC. No surprises here at all. Pakistan was a good odi side in 90s. They were the only ones capable of competing with Aussies and saffers back in the odi format at the time.

Uh ok. Pakistan beat them in the group stage too before the KO stages. Again, no surprise.

They also beat them in a series before the WC. No surprise.

In saying that, Pakistan was lucky in the WC. They should have lost to England. Match got rained out. Doesn't mean they aren't better than Kiwis

Again, not interested in random stuff.

Note that there are posters here who have watched every ball of that tournament.

How is it random? Ask yourself this question. Was Pakistan a better side or not compared to Kiwis.

Kiwis were playing Australia and n.z. ofcourse they can do reasonably well.

Pakistan beat them in bilaterals and then twice in the world cup. No surprise here. Only surprise here is you calling it a surprise.

Believe it or not they were not better than NZ team of 92. That team was special. Pak was actually going through transition and their form was pretty bad. A mix of luck and some great individual performances helped them to win the WC.  The Pak team of 87 or 99 was far superior and clear favourites on the day.

Pakistan had a shocker of a tourney at the start in 1992.  Them reaching SF was a shocker to most sides.  Then Inzi played a gem of inns..  Real clutch.

Only if Kiwis winning the World cup in 2019 would match that turn around.
