Venkatesh Iyer is a more valuable T20I batsman than Shubman Gill or dare I say, Shreyas Iyer.

I see no point of his entry delayed into T20I team. He should be a backup batsman immediately following this T20 WC and become a regular after 2022.

he will be. He is in nets as a bowler as everyone wants to see his bowling abilities.. he showed his batting skill anyways.. also csk would have scored ten less if he bowled 2 more overs. He has the bravo style of t20 bowling which is suitable in any pitches.. also by bringing him to nets they already have a ready made back up if injury strikes HDP

No they still can. As per rules you can add anybody even if they are not reserves if there is an injury. So if india lost 1 player then they can get in another player in the team from reserves and can supplement the reserves with a player provided they have done the mandatory quarantine. Also they have the option of bringing a player directly in the team ( mainly keeping in mind specialist roles like wk) if they are in the bubble and have completed quarantine. Most teams have 2 wks in team ( india by luck has 3). So if a wk gets injured then the second wk needs to play. But you always need a back up wk. Then u can get anybody from outside provided the quarantine logic.
