Devoid of any emotional connect. Maybe Surya has a better role in the sequel than Sethupathi did in the first part.

Films like Vikram are a different world. Like John Wick. 84% IMDb rating is an evidence.

Brahmastra spoiler alert.

Mythological references from Brahmastra

1. SRK lights up his own house and then jumps through the roof to project Hanuman of bigger size. This is very similar to hanuman lighting up Lanka in small size and then rises high in the sky to his bigger form to see Lanka burn.

2. When Zor and Raftaar after getting hit by the sun and moon lantern tell SRK they are here to bring back Brahma Dev, SRK immediately looks up at the Jupiter lantern and tells them they won't be able to do so. Brihaspati (Jupiter) is a deity associated with fire (and identified as lord agni) and is one of the thousand names of Shiva. This connects Shiva (RK) to agni.

3. RK kills Zor who had the power of bull , with a trident in the same way ma durga killed mahishasur who could take the form of a buffalo. Rk also said he is a big believer of maa Durga, in his convo with alia. Also the 10 handed form of his might be a reference to ten handed form of maa Durga, protecting everyone from evil while rk was protecting Alia here.

4. Duality in the nature of fire was aptly shown in the movie. Just like fire is a testament of purity(used as a sacred entity during Yajnas) but also it is used to burn dead bodies taking the near dear ones from your life. RK's mom died in fire but Alia is alive only because of his agniastra. While burning ravan down during Dusshera it was seen how ravan has a connection to shiva(rk here) as ravan was the biggest follower of lord shiva.

5. Tears of Junoon symbolises the rudraksh of Brahma Dev. Rudrakshas are formed from the tears of lord shiva who is trapped in his rudra Avatar in form of Brahma Dev here. They are fruits of Shiva's compassion towards humanity in this case junoon to let her die because she can't die without bringing brahmadev in power. If you think from her perspective it doesn't matter what happens to the world or Brahma Dev but without those 3 parts together she said she won't be able to die.

6. The third eye of rudra was in the hands of junoon which was brought to power. The reason rudra is being called Brahma Dev is because he took birth from the intense anger of Brahma.

7. Dimple Kapadia has the power of dhanvantari, god of healing and that's why she is a doctor who took care of Alia. That ring that can heal plants also belongs to her.

8. All the weapons that were used on zor on that roof top scene were forms of vajra. A net and two electrocute javelins. So is prabhastra. Most of brahmansh's weapons are Indra's which is obvious because he is the protector of devas and svarg just like brahmansh is a protector of brahmastra. That's why junoon has Indra's power to bring rain as her master is from the same brahmansh.

9.There was a nice scene of the brahmand(universe), which is Brahma himself responding to the powers of brahmastra.

10. The phases of getting dreams or flashes of directions from God is something very integral to Hinduism. Upanishads explain dreaming as a personal experiential path towards realisation of the illusory nature of the self and all reality. So no this is not some Harry Potter discovery.

11. Sankha is formed from the ashes of asuras(in this case dev) thrown into rivers. So a part of brahmastra being in form of sankha when Amrita defeated Dev is symbolic of the asur being defeated and thrown in to jal( mainly river water). Sankha being with Amrita who was pregnant also indicated to the representation of sankha being tied to female fertility. Sankhas are also related to serpants and junoon being able to invoke rain(jal) makes me wonder if she has a connection to Amrita.

12. Amrita means immortality and the fight between her and Dev on an island in the middle of an ocean is symbolic of the samudra manthan between gods and asuras for amrit without which the gods were about to lose their immortality.

Man....are you an investor in this film? or a devoted fan? Or part of production crew?

You are spending sooo much time posting and analyzing the film. And seems to know sooo much.

I love such subjects which involves hidden cues and mysteries, symbolisms and refrences. I am a writer myself and like to write complicated stories.

Ok Finally saw the film - i liked it , i was quite engaged till the end and i really want to see the 2nd part specially Dev . I think everyone has spoken enough about the negatives which im always ready to ignore incase positives are more which was the case with this film specially if its a very tough subject to crack. Everyone related to this film should be proud of the high quality of product they have delivered ..............it is a marvel , it has its share of problems but it gets a lot of things right. It has the best VFX that has been done till date in Indian cinema .

Now that they wud have understood where they lacked i hope they improve on those areas from next film. These kind of films are still a work in progress for us and this was a great step.

2nd part shud be much more fun since 1st was just a setup , it when u bring in a big Villian which is where mouni roy lacked.

Also about the so called love story - having a love story was not the problem . Love is a universal theme that has been used by all directors (anyone remembers interstellar).

Problem was alia performance , her poorely written character and the way it was integrated in screenplay. It often acted as speed breaker and annoyingly it took the tension out during many sequence.

Note : you shud go to cinema with blank slate, if you have already decided to love or hate a film its the worst mindset to watch a film . I see a lot of people wanting to just hate the film , better dont watch it

Alia's character playing out like that was also probably intentional.

poor acting intentional ?? Even if you are acting like ur hiding something this was plain bad acting .

Same goes for writing - even if that character is hidding something and has a greater purpose , this was very poor writing . Whole film that character had no conflict , no individuality or no shade.............it was plain boring . She didnt do it intentionally she basically had nothing to do apart from going along everything and just taking the character towards his destination which in a way tamanaah charcter did in baahubali but she had more individuality then her . You cannot tell anything about Esha character without taking shiva name.

Reason why she has annoyed everyone is her character is plain bad that just goes along with everything so easy . On paper it had no depth and neither as actor she was able to add

Unless u reveal the intention that intentional logic doesn't work becoz u didnt justify the act. Any character with one singular note will end up failing most times .

Because it's not a complete film. Next part will reveal it. If you have observed there were several instances that indicate it was Isha who came into his life just to put Brahmastra back. She was wearing same ring as Dev. Shiva started having visions and his connection with fire woken up when he first touched Isha. Her mysterious smile when Shiva talked about going to Varanasi. I am not looking at first part as a standalone film. It is like a series of three parts and story will continue further in the second part. We have not seen the complete story yet.

It also seemed Shiva could command any Astra like he commanded Anish to fight and stopped Mohan from telling more.

As i said even if the character had a greater role in the overall plot u cant write it as one note plain boring . The reason it failed for everyone unanimously coz it had not shades no individuality, which is why at the audience doesn't even care for her Future part theories.

All the theories of her greater agenda to lead her to his destination becoz of an ulterior motive doesnt land becoz the character is not at ll interesting in 1st place. Rule of any screenplay is how u tell it interestingly  . As the most famous teaching in any screenwriting class is - u can find a story anywhere even in travelling to office, but it will only engage audience if the journey is interesting.

Problem Alia bhatt character suffer is it has nothing - u dont know anything about her and u have wasted 3 hours, even if she is a mystery and its one film u cant leave audience with one same info for 3 hours . She can be one from Dev army or even being send by amitabh and dimple character but in the end it wont have much impact unless they fix her character in 2nd part. Why something like GOT gives fire to too many theories is coz every character has enough shades to debate on multiple theories. In regds Esha she was the most dull n boring written character audience actually dont care about to even debate on such theories. If audience doesn't care about the character well the writing has failed right there itself. Even if they wanted to keep a lot hidden for next part they shud have added more to her character in this part . Its not only her character many character suffers from same problem in the film, which is why the extra time spend on love story is hurting everyone - First anyways u dont care about Alia character then others they have spend no time on so even when they die u dont give a fck

This intentional word is a bad excuse for lazy writing and poor acting which can be used for any poor performance. If it hasnt worked for everyone means it failed. Actually love story wasnt the problem it was the catalyst Esha . No matter what story u have, what you wanna say or hide it has to be interesting and keep audience invested or else it fails

I think you have watched spiderman initial movies. What's the role of heroine in that? She is there from start to finish barely doing anything but in this at least Isha has a role to play. She has the ring of Dev which activated the Agni of Shiva. Lot of such things will come out in the next part. In this, she has been shown innocent happy go lucky girl who knows nothing about Shiva and Brahmansh.

I wish they had made it based on Amish Tripathi’s Shiva Trilogy.

ayan can base it on anything or choose to take ref or mild inspiration all are fine , its his creative choice. He has taken enough ref from other films...........problem isnt that.

What stops it from becoming a great film is same which affects most film - basic screenplay errors. If your audience doesnt care about your character...............it fails right at that moment. Alia's poor character writing hurts the film most becoz she is a main character. Their are other character that suffer same but her being one of the main hurts the film.

Reason im very lenient with the film is its a very tough film to crack specially when we have never cracked it as whole industry . Also Ayan is someone who has written good female characters like of konkana (wakeup side) and deepika (yjhd) so if he has gone wrong its ok , he is allowed and hopefully he works on it in 2nd part.
